Why Am I Not Losing Weight?

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes on July 6th. Immediately started a low carb diet, began swimming every second day, only drink water, etc. Only eat one meal a day plus snacks because I'm full all the time.

I'm doing something right because my blood pressure has dropped from "high" to "optimal" and my blood glucose has dropped from the mid-teens to 5-6 mmol.

I've lost . . . five pounds in almost three months.

I see people say they lost 30 pounds in that time. People say I've gained muscle from swimming but a 5'4" woman should not be weighing 189 pounds.

I'm so frustrated. What am I doing wrong?

You aren't doing anything wrong.

Your main aim is to reduce or eliminate your symptoms, so getting your BP and BG down into the normal range is a tremendous result.

You are also losing weight, and "slow and steady wins the day". Everyone is different; some people can shed weight easily and others find it very hard but you are getting lighter and if you keep doing what you are doing then the weight should keep coming off.

I note from an update that you have lost just over 10 lbs in just over a month. Keep that up for a year and you will have lost 120 lbs!

Thank you very much. :)

I started tracking my food at diagnosis thinking eventually my doctor or diabetes dietician would want to see it but they don't seem interested. They just look at my blood glucose numbers and tell me to carry on.

Unfortunately, not surprising. Just because they are not interested doesnt mean you dont have to be. I find it quite advantageous to track foods, amounts and see what works best... dial it in to what gives best control... and once the parameters that work best are determined, just keep hitting those parameters. Mindful, of course, those parameters may vary from time of day, meal to meal, as our metabolisms vary throughout the day (dawn phenomenon, daytime activity, etc.) but generally the same for each time slot day to day. That doesnt mean we cant change up our foods/meals, but just keep hitting those basic parameters, as in amount of carbs, protein, cals, etc... Wish you the best...
