Hi Mattlyn and WelcomeAll i ask for is some help, advice, anything is helpful to me at this point
You are right and controlling your diabetes will give you a long life. Although I am a type 2 and can't give you much advice on handling Type 1 it would seem that you have already identified some key starting pointsI want to live a long life and I know 10 years of uncontrolled diabetes isnt the way to do it.
Also @GrantGam1337 suggestion that you make an appointment with your diabetes team is really important. But most important is you keep coming back to us on here if it still isn't working and if it is as there are many Type Ones here who will be able to offer great advice and tips controlling your Diabetes on an ongoing basischecking my blood sugar, counting carbs and doing my insulin
You have no idea how much this really helped. Just getting responses made my anxiety go away. Just knowing other people are like me and have challenges like me makes me feel so much better. I will definitely look into talking to my doctor and seeing what I can do to start changing. Last time him and I talked he wanted me to just check my sugars four times a day for a month and then get me on the pump. So we shall see! Thank you again! You have no ideaI can't imagine how dificult having diabetes from the age of ten must be. It was complicated enough for me to try (and I'm still trying) to get my head round it at the start, even at the ripe old age of 23!
This forum will provide some fantastic information from persons with in some cases a lifetime worth of experience and stories to share. You're far from alone.
You must get a better control on your diabetes for your own health and well-being. Having a positive focus on your condition will also give you a target and goal to work towards, giving you a sense of satisfaction when you start reigning those BGL's in and improving your overall control.
You should arrange an appointment with your diabetes team and explain exactly what you have said here. They will be more than happy to help you out. With their professional help you will find that successful diabetes management, although far from easy, is achievable.
It sounds like you have been through a lot in your life especially being the age you are. But those events can be put in the past with your positive decision to move forward and improve things. The improvement must be an initial decision on your part and your family, friends (here included!) and diabetes team will be behind you with every step!
I hope this has helped paint the picture that you're not alone and there are people around to help, all day - everyday!
Good luck Mattlyn
Grant
Checking bloods four times a day will help the Dr get you on the right doses for your insulin. And also tell you if you're taking too much/too little with each meal. You have no idea how much this really helped. Just getting responses made my anxiety go away.
