Since I've been diagnosed with T2 in March 2017 I've been following the Keto plan and have gotten everything pretty stable since then, with no meds. I forgot to take my BG before breakfast today so waited 2 hr and took it after. It was 11.5!! YIKES! For breakfast I ate one fried egg, a tiny bit of ham, a few pieces of cut-up peppers/onion, coffee with Stevia, MCT oil/collagen and a Keto bun/butter. I know I didn't get a good night's sleep, however, it rarely goes that high. Why would it do that? I have to say it freaks me out when it does that for no reason that I can figure out. So, I'm taking the dog for a walk now to see if I can get it to come down. Diabetes is weird.

Did you wash your hands and repeat the test to rule out faulty strip or something on your fingers giving an inaccurate reading

What did you eat yesterday? that definitely affects the following days figures

I was also wondering if getting a summer cold might do it
Very likely.
Yes, I washed my hands first. We just got back from our walk and it's now down to 7.0.
From 11.5 to 7 in an hour or so seems like a big drop just from taking a walk. I wouldn't believe the 11.5 if it doesn't usually happen and you haven't repeated the test.

I can't really assist with anything but reassurance - though I am puzzled by you having eaten a 'keto bun' - what is it? As an afterthought - how many carbs does it have?[/QUOT

I probably should have checked it the second time. Since it was such a big drop, maybe there was a problem the first time. I hate it when it does that.
