Why has my weight plateaud?

So I've been low carbing for around 2 months now, eating 40-50 g cho per day and a good amount of fat and protein in the form of cheese, meat, fish and then lots of green leafy veg, salad and berries too. Also having some natural yogurt and milk in tea and coffee as normal. Plus some beers at the weekend (you gotta have a life).Eating less than ever before, probably less than 1500 calories per day. Weight loss the first month 8lbs the second month 5lbs but seems to have really slowed down now to around 1/2 - 1lb per week which is sooooooooo frustrating!

Anyone got any ideas why this is happening? Do I need to reduce my fat? Cut out the beer (estimate having 1-2 pints on a friday, or a saturday, or sometimes both)? Cut out the milk in tea and coffee?

Or do I just accept that my body wants a break from the weight loss? Considereing I am eating less cals than I am using (am a woman, 5'4'', 148 lbs so should be burning 2000 cals a day or so?) then I should still be losing weight? Or has my body learned to use the fat and protein as fuel more effectively?

How can I speed up my weight loss??

Thanks for any advice

Rude people! Not being able to do the things I want to do.
At 5' 4" and 148 lbs you are not far from your ideal weight!!maybe your body is saying that it is here and just maintain the weight you are at!!You could try increasing exercise to maybe kick start it again but personally I would be delighted if I got down to that weight and would just work at maintaining it there.

I'm about a stone off - ideally would like to be under 140 lbs. Just seems ironic that the one time in my life I manage to control my eating, and the weight loss stops. Although, yes maybe Ishouldn't be ungrateful. Just wondering if there is an explanation for it. And I do need to step up the exercise - was hoping that wasn't the answer!

I'm the same height as you and ,unfortunately, mine has plateaued much sooner than being one stone off!! :( :( I would like to lose another two stone, even then I will be heavier than my ideal weight but it would be a weight I would be happy with.
This week I am going to try kick starting by exercise. Will let you know if it works!

Hi A/c, ive just come off a stall yesteday. Dead in the water since 3rd March this year. I am doing more exercise now than then. I was also in a yoyo anything up to 4lbs on any day. Confusing and gets you peeeeed of a bit. Its one of those things you just have to stick with. Hanadr had a similar spell recently.

Only about a stone to go myself. :D

I'm in one too, 4 and a bit stone since Nov, stalled since March. Suppose it's healthy really, that was a lot of weight to lose in a short time!

Me three!

Four and a half stones between June and December last year then nothing. Zilch. Nada. Fluctuations of 4-6 lbs in 24-48 hour periods and no change from this despite changing my diet every which way. I'm still at least 3 stones away from 'normal'.

Ain't it reassuring that it's happening to loads of other people.

Let us know how it goes guys. Keeps my pecker up doncha know.

Ooo I do love a man with a beard.

It would be very interesting if others here who have lost weight with the low-carb approach could post if their experiences were/are the same.

Me, you, Hana, Sugarless (Sue, my pecker is a figment of your imagination!). Who else?

Fergus and GB, you are now both of a 'normal' weight. Did you have this stalling thing at all?

wiflib

ps. I get really naffed off about the fluctuating weight thingy. And to think that all I cared about a year ago was reducing my HbA1c. Pfffftttt

Well i downsized the protein element on the basis that protien ellicits an insulin response and thereby could add to the fat store.

Theory anyway

Remember that ½lb a week equates to 1st 12lbs in 12 months.
I would be happy with that!

Jim, I have a bunch of size 12 clothes that I'm just itching to get in to!! Although I have now started jogging, going to do the race for life in four weeks with a friend (5k race) so hoping that'll melt some of the pounds away! I'll keep you posted

Hi all
My weight loss has stopped too. I started low carbing in Feb. Lost around a stone in a month :D
Then slowly lost another 1/2 stone over 2 months... :) Now fluctuating up & down within that 1/2 stone :?

Ladies - I have to say that, for me at least, this seems to have a link with "girl stuff" :x
Gents - I have no idea what your excuse is

I have about 1 to 1 1/2 stone to go to my ideal weight (I'm 5'2" & weigh 11 stone (or 10 1/2 on a good day!).

How do I cut protein & keep the fat intake?? Are calories important??
Thanks for any ideas...
CurvyP :)

There are anecdotal stories of people losing weight by eating a lot of avocados, also cheese and coconut oil which provide relatively beneficial fats, few carbs and appropriate quantities of protein.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I lost 2 and a half stone between August and March, but have been in a 4 lb range at 14.12 since then. I need to get down belw 11, apparently (male, 5'6"), even though I've never been below 13 that I can recall.

Low carbing certainly doesn't leave me hungry, but it ain't helping with weight loss at the mo.

Looks like I may have to do low carb and low cal to be sure of shifting the weight - anyone else tried this?

Thanks for your replies everyone, just to update you all, the plateau has stopped! Weighed myself today and another 1/4 stone gone, so it seems that last weeks weight loss was hiding under the plateau. Don't know what I've done differently really, have done a bit more exercise and maybe not quite as much cheese, but I think I've realised that with this kind of diet plateaus are common, and just to keep going and it'll come off eventually :D
