I haven't weighed myself for a week but I am sure my weight is not going down, in fact my stomach looks bigger than it did last week and I just feel urgh

I have cut out bread, pasta, rice and potatoes. today I have had
breakfast: 30 g porridge made with water with cream
mid morning: bluberries and greek yoghurt/piece of brie
lunch: brie, 6 baby plum tomaroes, 2 slices of ham
tea: pork cooked in stock with sprouts (this was a low carb recipe)

where am I going wrong?

it might have helped you more, if have you had egg bacon and tomatoes for breakfast, ham and a large salad for lunch then you would have had no carbs today and no bloating.

Hi there,
Only thing I can think of is that you are not eating enough calories on a daily basis and your body metabolism has gone into hibernation mode as it feels that you are in a famine. Try increasing your daily calories to 1800 a day. See what happens.

Why don't you weigh yourself and find out what is happening?

And porridge is a no-no on a low carb diet I'm afraid (I'm assuming you are trying low carb by the fact you have dropped all the other starchy carbs-if not I apologise)

thank you for all your replies.

2christine I normally have eggs and ham for breakfast but have ran out. thanks for the suggestions for lunch and cutting down the carbs

carraway I am trying to weigh myself once a week at the same time which is Saturday morning. I never used to weigh myself so don't want to get obsessed and overdo it

thanks - that's why I asked the question as I know I am eating too many carbs but not sure what to cut out. I am going to order the collins carb counter. porridge doesn't spike my bs so I (wrongly) assumed it would be OK

hi from a bg low carb point of view, if it dosent spike you, then in my opinion its not wrong, the whole point of it is to reduce the stuff that pushes up your bg but, from a trying to get yourself into a ketogenic state ie. low enough carbs to make your body burn fat for energy rather than carbs then its probly not great, which sounds like what you want, keep trying and i wouldnt get disheartened yet, its still very early days and you havent weighed yourself yet, you never know but even if you have gained a tad, keep trying im sure you will reep the benefits very soon

thanks for those encouraging words. It is early days and it will take time. my legs have got thinner and so has my waist it;s just my stomach...

ahhh, then you probly have lost weight, your legs weigh loads, your tummy may even be feeling bigger in context to the rest of your getting smaller, unfortunately our tummies are the first to grow and the last to go

thinking about it I felt better last week so I think it is the porridge. It will have to go and I will have to make sure I don't run out of eggs.

Andy I know you do alot of baking. I was thinking of making low carb cakes, biscuits etc or should I wait till things settle down?

Have you taken your body measurements? I know it sounds mad but you can lose inches without seeming to have lost weight. I know this is true as I have done just that, my weight stayed much the same for quite a while but my inches were reduced considerably. Measure your calves, thighs, tummy, waist, bust or chest and upper arms. Do this once a month, not more as it can get obsessive.

This is a not bad link if you ignore all the hype and only read the relevant bits.

Good Luck! :D

NO!!! dont wait, its brilliant!!! why wait? it kept me going for sure during the early days when i missed eating everything, it saved me i highly recommend it to everyone, its fun, and the stuff tastes amazing (when you get it right hehe) i never baked anything before low carb baking, so it was alot of trial and error and looking into the bowl thinking the recipe says pour it out but this looks like a solid block and then realising i had missed a important ingredient, and instead of my traditional giant toblerone from the kids for fathers day i got measuring scales and stuff like that so i was stoked and didnt give the toblerone (my absolute favourite) a second thought

I just need to get almond and coconut flour. why is healthy eating so expensive?

I have found a recipe for cheese crisps so I will start with them tomorrow

OK...I may have been a bit hasty last night. I weighed myself this morning and I have lost 2 lbs. This means I have lost 6 lbs in the last month. I am happy with this.

Thank you to everyone for your help and advice yesterday

woohoo!! well done :) 6lb in a month is a perfect rate of weight loss, your doing amazingly well, keep it up!

Its worth bearing mind you may have actually lost even more body fat, but gained some muscle (assuming you are exercising as well). Taking measurements helps identify this. I got worried when my weightlosses slowed right down but having a body fat measurement done showed I was losing fat and gaining muscle. Muscle is heavier than fat and also retains water, but the more lean muscle mass you have the better your body can use its insulin, I rarely get a post prandial reading over 5.5 nowadays, and frequently in the 4's. Only got 3 more pounds to lose now to have the recommended BMI for my build, but the last 10 pounds have taken months and months to get rid of.

Sent from a melting iceberg. help!!!
