thought id do a random 1 hr test after my granola last week and shock horror ive been hitting the 8s after 1 hour. when i was losing the weight this granola was giving brilliant readings 1 and 2 hours after eating. but this week ive been hitting from 5.2 start right up to 8.3 then back down to 6.2 all week. ive also noticed that even the milk in coffee is giving me a 1mmol spike 1 hour after drinking.

ive been trusting these foods for months now. my nurse said youre tolerances to food will change because of the rapid weight loss. does this mean back to the drawing board? i tried it with greek yogurt and the spike dissapeared probably because the fat content in the yogurt. but i use this yogurt in the night while im on the road as a snack, i cant just live off yogurt surely. any advise please would be gratefull. finding diet and exercise a struggle now as weight is off and finding it difficult to balance exercise to keep levels down against burning calories to stop losing weight. is there any food out there that helps put on weight which isnt riddled in fat or salt. pork scratchings being a must at the mo but the salt content is ridiculous

Not sure what your portion size usually is but I found after my 5 st weight loss that I had to adjust the portion sizes of many of the foods that I once was able to tolerate, otherwise they 'spiked' my levels too. Try reducing the portions by a third or half.

Ken.

granted il try that but 25g of that in the morning is a very small protion shall i add some nuts to it ive got to put on weight 25g seems very small for such potent stuff

You can put berries or nuts in if you want, might make a difference. Not sure if that is the answer. Try it and then test, see how it affects the levels.

Personally. I manage quite well on a portion of no more than 20g Granola.......I am nearly 6 foot and just under 15 st. Then again I am now conditioned to not eating much and I also am on Byetta which obviously has an effect on my Bg levels anyway. We are all different in how we react to foods.

Hi bedshaped,
Have you tried soya milk. It is an acquired taste but it might work.

It will depend on what the ingredients of the granola are and if there are starchy grains in it is likely to have more of an effect on your BG levels than the homemade nuts and seeds variety. Try the recipe for Granola topping in the recipe thread - you can change it around as you want but if you keep the starchy grains out it should be ok.

Nibbling on seeds and nuts is pretty good at stabilising your weight - so long as you don't overdo it! I also nibble on lean meat and on cheese; I know it has fat in it but it doesn't seem to hurt me, all you can do is try. :?

You could live on worse things than greek yoghurt!

Could it be that the weight you have lost being that you are now smaller - isn't there something about larger people that drink alchol it takes longer to get round them or so they say and that the less fatty person gets drunk sooner (cheaper at least!) could it be the same with our BS that being smaller .... can you see where I am going. Or it might be that you just need to change your diet try porridge and see how that effects you for a few days I was told to try it with cinnamin in it but didn't like it but cinnamin is suppose to be good for lowering your sugar.
