Why my blood glucose low after a meal

First welcome then what do/did you eat what was your blood glucose before the meal and what was it 2hrs after. This is the least information we need before we can give you an answer.

No one can tell you anything without information.

Taking any meds?
What your diet is like, what you ate etc
Was it post exercise or not, if so, what type of exercise
How long after a meal did you test ?
What was the result?

Hi @kevin2 ,

Welcome to the forum. :)

I notice in your profile you take oral meds. What sort are you prescrinbed.?
As @Tophat1900 asks, what did you test at.?

Did you test before eating too? The journey may be more telling than the destination.

Ok I tested before my meal 5pm and my blood was 6.1
Had a large meal potatoes veg and chicken Im taking Metformin 50mg which I take before eating
2 hours later I tested and it was 2.7
I felt bad and new my blood was low
So I made a sandwich 30 mins later my blood tested 8.1
And yes I do exercise I run 20 miles a week
This as been happening a lot lately
I been Type 2 for 4 years now and normally have good control

Did you do a re test to see if this was a rogue reading? Sometimes a rogue reading can be due to a failing battery or a dud strip, this is assuming you are using a box standard glucometer.

I had no Alcohol and understand Alcohol does bring blood sugar down and higher later

Yes done a re test more than once as this as been happening a lot lately
Thinking about fasting allday and eating in the evening
To see if that helps
Any ideas ?

Yes it does ring a bell
Well how do I stop this happening It could be dangerous for me
I get worried about sleeping

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I was misdiagnosed T2, but until I got diagnosed I had no idea what was happening.

Without hospital tests, there is only self testing to find out what is happening.

How many episodes of low blood levels have you had lately?
Are you getting any unusual and usual symptoms that got the diagnosis of T2?
What was your last Hba1c?
What are your fasting levels in the morning?
Are you continually hungry?
Does the low happen after exercise?

Sorry for all the questions, but it might help.

Other than the metformin, do you take any other meds?

Hypoglycaemia can be controlled by diet, mainly avoiding food that causes an insulin overshoot. Hypoglycaemia usually means too much insulin.

The next step is not to alter what you are doing at the moment but self test, fasting, then pre meal, two hours after, three hours after, even four hours or when you feel the low coming on!

I do know, that some people are prone to go hypo after strenuous exercise, I can only walk and work at a steady pace.
If you have been an athlete that carbs up, drinks sports drink or the like during exercise then carbs up after to replenish glucose levels.
This may be why your blood sugar levels are struggling with T2!
Getting high spikes and lows as well.

This maybe why you are now getting the symptoms.

Ask away, if you need to ask about hypoglycaemia.

Best wishes.

Thanks, but this tag didn't show up in my alert box!
I'm tagging @Brunneria to find out why!

Hi @Lamont D

We will PM you, rather than continue derailing this thread. :D
