Wife Diabetic

I am a carer for my wife, who amongst her other problems, arthritis, heart problems, angina, anaemia and COPD is also a sufferer of Diabetes.
She has now had Diabetes for about 14 years that we know of. She uses insulin and tablets to control this and it is under control as well. The last blood test to check her sugar levels showed it to be at 5.2 which is the HB1AC and they are pleased with her.
Seems to get tired a lot and i think that this is down to her diabetes and likes to rest in the afternoon. Any views on this would be appreciated. Finds it difficult to sleep at times but has avoided resting in the afternoon but does not make any different.

Thanks for you help

Hi hal,
Firstly welcome to the forum!
The body tells us when something is wrong by making us sleep! My mum is on insulin! She has a hour or two rest in the day, like your wife my mum has angina, artritis, ashma, type 1 diabetes! too many to mention! your wife needs to rest, our body heals most of the time while we rest!
I often find myself having a afternoon doze! when she is tired do you check her blood sugar?

Agreed, might be worth checking to see if she goes high or low when she gets tired, the A1c doesn't show up such local variations.

Also worth checking if she ever has to use steroids, they can bang up the BG even in nondiabetics.

I'm off for a nap soon, I've taken to having an early evening siesta then getting up later when I can do stuff without interruptions. That's just age . . .

Dislikes
soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
At the moment my T1 husband, just back from hospital with an infected foot, is severely anaemic, because of kidney troubles and is awaiting iron infusion( at the end of the month) and also has sleep apnoea. He goes to bed every afternoon. claims not to sleep though, even if I do hear him
