If you still produce your own insulin you could probably at the least have your insulin dosage reduced or possibly be taken off insulin. Although my thought is if you get your hbA1c down on insulin, then it's the insulin that's helped you do that. Docs will probably say that you should be kept on it to keep that control. As for me I don't produce the insulin I need so I've been told I won't be taken off it. I wish you the best.
