Is it true that, no matter how much I try to keep my bs down, I will end up needing insulin anyway, its just a question of when?

My friend said she read it somewhere and I am feeling frightened and sad again at the thought :(

No-one can say for sure, but there are lots of T2s that don't end up on insulin. I think that the view that T2 Diabetes is always progressive, is a self perpetuating myth, based on the NHS' advice. If you eat the recommended high-carbohydrate diet, and never test your BG levels (as they suggest) then your pancreas probably will burn out one day.

I might have done some damage to my pancreas pre-diagnosis, but it's difficult to see how I'm going to wear out the rest of my beta-cells by eating a very low carbohydrate diet.

If it does happen, I'm not worried about it. I think there is some truth in the view that it can help support a failing pancreas, and that sooner is better than later.

Lucylockett try not to worry ahead of things before they happening
Remember that worry and stress can raise bg levels and do some other horrible things to our bodies, eg deprive organs of oxygen!!
You are doing fine at the moment, hopefully it will stay that way. It all depends on how much life there is left in your pancreas, none of us know what lies ahead.
Over the years I have met quite a few people with type 2 diabetes that are diet and exercise controlled, and have been like this for years.
I do know a couple who have gone on to insulin and they are very happy with it.
All the best x x
