HI all.

We are having home made chicken curry tomorrow but I'm at a loss as to what to have to accompany it. I am not a low carber and usually have some rice but after the high numbers I have had this week, I am trying to temporarily cut out the rice, pasta etc, just for a week or so. I also know that if I have a little bit I will want more.

Any ideas? I really don't fancy cauli (had it tonight). I love salad but not with a curry..need something to fool my tum into thinking it's had a "proper" curry!.

I know this sounds strange, but I slice spring greens into ribbons and steam it slightly and oten use it as a type of pasta substitute, its brilliant for mopping up the juices of a sauce. maybe you could try that,
Or Asda do a ranch style salad with loads of veg cut into tiny colourful strips a mini julienne sort of thing, and although its supposed to be eaten raw, its, brilliant lightly stir fried. and very good for you

ali :D

Thanks Allie. I quite like the sound of the spring greens, I also had them tonight but I really enjoy them, the texture is pleasant and I find they go well with spicy flavours such as chili and garlic so curry..yep, I will give it a go!

I tolerate cauli but it is just so..bleughh!!

Will keep the stir fry veggie idea in mind too, thanks :)

Cauliflower rice is used by a lot of low-carbers as a substitute to the real thing, add some herbs, garlic and spices to it as it can be quite bland on its own.

Hi LB I eat very little rice when we have curry, usually twice a week but we always have more than I can eat.

To your lamb/chicken/prawn curry add some vegetable curry's Chana Masala (Chick Peas) - carby but have little effect on bg levels - low GI and a Mushroom Bhaji then maybe add a couple of Chicken Pakora's and perhaps an Onion Bhaji whole or shared

Bet you cant eat it all

If you want recipe's for chana masala and or a mushroom bhaji let me know and I'll see if I can scan them to a PDF file and post them up for you

Sid - that sounds like a challenge!

LOL, We always cook too much when we have a curry

You seriously want to make a bet on whether I can eat a load of curry Sid?

Trust me..you'll lose!! 8) I..ahem..need to work on my portion sizes when it comes to curries.

Jokes aside, I would very much like to have the recipes you suggested. I have a recipe for a curried lentil dhal and did wonder if I could put some of that beside the chicken curry..thought it might be too much though.

Look forward to your culinary wisdom appearing here soon. :D

Here you are Ladybird and anyone else who may care to try them, I have scanned both recipes to a PDF file so you will need Adobe Reader to open it if you do not already have it installed when you click to open it it should prompt you to download it ( I think lol)

Apologies for the poor scan but both sheets have come from the kitchen and are creased, stained and very well used.

Just click this link - Download CurryNight.pdf Then simply save it to your PC, iPad etc

If you search Google Images you will find lots of pictures of how they should look

Cheers for this Sid, will have a go at making them next time around. I had lentils alongside my curry and was 7.1 two hours later..not too bad at all, just needs some fine tuning.
