I'm the programme manager for an NHS organisation called WOUNDTEC Healthcare Technology Co-operative. We were set up by the National Institute for Health Research to encourage and facilitate innovation in wound care with a patient and carer led focus. We want to work with patients and carers to ensure devices that are developed for wound care have adequate patient involvement and therefore fits in with their lifestyle.
For example, a common complaint we hear from diabetic patients with ulcers is that is that they don't like wearing support devices because they look hideous and impacts on their quality of life. We want to change this but we can only do this with the active participation of patients and carers.
