Hi looking for some advice from you guys have pre diabetes hba1c of 43 have made a lot of changes I have been testing my blood sugar it was generally around 5.3 run out of straps got some more have started testing again now seems to always be around 5.7 I do these tests during the day my last fasting test was 5.6 my worry is it seems to be creeping up not down since I'm doing low carb can someone give me advice I know 5.7 is still classed as normal my fear is in a years time or less that 5.7 will become 6.2 and so on hope this makes sense

Was your 5.7 a fasting test ? Are you also doing the odd test two hours after eating to see how your body is coping ? You`re right that 5.7 is regarded as being normal ( whatever that is !) just keep an eye on it and see your doctor is it does creep up . Your readings aren't a worry at the moment even though they have risen slightly , just keep notes and do the odd test two hours after food .

My fasting test was 5.6 that was yesterday just a little annoying ice been eating very little carbs maybe too much protein is that possible thanks for the reply

The metres are only accurate to +/- 15%, so its not worth worrying about a 0•4 mmol rise. It is also quite common to get higher or lower readings from new batches of strips

A lot of prediabetic posters would be happy with those normal readings.
You are doing really well, it's a marathon not a sprint, you've probably plateaued a little, it will start creeping down again soon. Don't be put off because it is working.

Thanks for the replies it's good to get advice from experienced people will stick at it and hope my numbers stay normal

Hi @bladerfc

I had a similar situation recently - my numbers in general crept up by about 1/2 to 3/4 mmol/L & although still very 'acceptable' it was bugging the hell out of me as I didn't seem to be doing anything differently. Anyhoo, I simply decided to take a few days off from testing & relaxed my very low carb intake just a little. I did do a bit more cycling (its my happy place :) ) & that may have made the real difference but either way I'm back to VLC, back to testing & best of all back to my usual numbers.

Who knows what the cause of the rise was & the 'cure' could have been the result of a little less stress from the testing holiday OR the extra exercise OR maybe I woke my pancreas up with the slightly increased carb intake - whatever it was I'll take it :)

I enjoy cycling weather in Scotland has been woefully bad of late a will do a few miles on the bike try that ha ha I'm probably just looking for miracles just when your pre diabetic a think the worse ha ha
