Right basically I have not been diagnosed with any condition been in and out of a & e and told it seems to be what the doctor described as baby stages of diabetes where my pancrea@ keeps shutting down then producing too much insulin then not enough my condition is getting worse and I'm going as high as 32 and as low as my monitor literally flashing Lo I'm collapsing feeling angry I'm really unpredictable and i used to be such a happy person now I'm always angry! Is this normal? I have two weeks till i see the specialist but I'm starting to get worse its changing my life and me as a person and I have no diagnosis as of yet or medication the doctors are funny about giving me test strips because i have not been diagnosed and where I aint been medicated so need to keep a close eye on my bm should my gp be helping me to do this?

I'm not surprised you're angry, Danny-Random!

First thing I would do, is make a list of what's been happening and when, as far as you can remember. Do that now, and include your bg levels.

Then - tomorrow morning! - phone the specialist's secretary, explain what's happening and that it's frightening you and you don't like having to go to A&E, and could they please give you the earliest possible appointment? It's an emergency. Don't shout at her, however much you feel like it -it's not her fault! (as if you would  - sorry!)

If the specialist can't help then go to your GP armed with your list of happenings and bg readings, and ask for help. Again, explain to the receptionist that you've been in and out of A&E and you need an emergency appointment. Every surgery I've ever been to has a couple of emergency slots at the end of each surgery - they just don't tell you about them.

Don't panic, keep testing. If necessary, go and sit in A&E again.

I think I might try eating more frequently with just a small amount of carbs in every meal, but I really don't know whether that would work. Someone may be along soon who can help more.

I dunno I tried eating every couple hours and went up to 32.1 due to no medication i felt like rubbish and had to run around to burn off sugar I am sick of it

Thank you Viv I did inform my gp today they just gavee test strips and told me to keep a eye on my levels basically i think they ment call a ambulance next time all I know is my cousin went into a coma at 41.3 and mine are slowly going very close to that scale!!!

High teens is too high, over 20 is much too high! How are you feeling otherwise? Vomiting, sweating, dizzy & light-headed, generally really unwell? If you get any of those, call that ambulance! or get someone to take you to A&E.

I would suggest the same if you go too low, as well. If you try to get your readings up by eating something sugary, you may well push yourself too much the other way.

Are you alone in your house/flat? If you are, do you have someone who might come and stay with you overnight? or somewhere you could go, to have company?

Make sure you keep yourself well hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

Let us know how things go. Did you try to contact the specialist?

I again thankyou for you advice. As for the symptoms I have brung up slight fluids, sweating, unconsciousness, get very thirsty, numbness in my feet aswell as sore pains on my underneath, pains abdominal (very rarely goes right from the top half of my gut right to my rectum) dizzy a lot blurred vision I don't always make sense,

Lucky for me I live with my partner who really does look after me to the best of her ability and always keeps me well when she sees the signs which is great.

I have called the specialist and been told to look out for canceled appointments so with any luck who knows what may happen :) if I do Go into these bad figures in the mean time I will make sure I get to hospital. i will also keep you updated, again thankyou ever-So-much you have helped me alot. Danny :)

Hi Viv,

I was in hospital again last night and told not to worry so much about going high. Obviously with readings of 32.4 H1 Ect I'm obviously right to worry? Yesterday I was high all day then just *RANDOMLY* dropped to hypo I was only in teen digits but felt really odd and daised and like I was on a boat the whole room was spinning i felt as if I was in mild shock of some form which was odd. At hospital I had hypo straight after a blood test which showed 5.8 the hospital was shocked that my sugars changed fast like that I went 2.5 3.5 straight away pretty much they seemed to be very concerned and to not worry bout the highs. They told me I would probably be started on a small amount of insulin, is that a good idea if somebody is going into hypo?

I don't really know how it works but I am sure the doctor told me my pancreas was producing to much insulin aswell as not enough! So surely insulin would be a bad idea? Just a worry and thought? I'm sure they wouldn't give me something to put me at risk? would they?

I really don't know what else to advise you, Danny - I'm not a qualified HCP, I'm Type 2 diabetic, and I don't go either too high or too low.

With the highs the danger is something called Diabetic Ketoacidosis - DKA. There is info about that on this site, or Google for info.

With lows, hypoglycaemia can lead to coma - again, info on here or Google.

All the HCPs you're seeing should be doing their best for you, but it's worth asking questions and asking for explanations of the treatment they're giving you. Why do they think you're having these rapid swings? Why do they think you'll be on a small amount of insulin? You're an intelligent human being and deserve an answer - you're not being unreasonable.

I don't know enough to say more than - if in doubt, seek medical help. Keep on as you are doing until you get your questions answered. Have they realised how many times you've been in hospital recently? If you keep pestering you just might find someone who has some answers. DOn't be afraid to tell them how frightened you are. I'd be having hysterics all over A&E by now!

Sorry I can't help more.
