Worrying about my blood results

Messages
2
I have pre diabetes screening for the past few years & the other day my practnurse called me to say my result had jumped from 49 - 53.
But not to worry a lot of folks are in the same boat it hit me like a brick wall and I’m now stressing over how I can gain control back as I have piled weight on.
I want to be able to try bring my number back under control without meds .
Am I been silly or am I been brave I’m just lost we’re to start with it all
But I know that I won’t be judge here as everyone is here for the same reason

Hello and welcome,

Yes you won't be judged here :) we're a friendly bunch.

The first thing I am going to recommend is that you get a meter. Many drs won't recommend them but my view is and always has been the meter is the thing that will tell you the effect of what you ate on your body. It has no biases and will not lie to you.

The second thing I am going to suggest is to reduce your carb intake. Type 2s are intolerant to carbs. When I went very low carb I brought my blood sugars sugars well within the normal range. I also lost weight but not sure whether that is something that you want.

How many carbs I hear you ask- well the answer to that is that we are all different and some carbs punch above their weight so to speak and have a disproportionate effect on people. What those are varies from person to person. This is why a meter is so many. It will tell you how many carbs you can cope with.

Read the link below as many have found it useful

Read around and post. There are so many helpful people here.

Good luck and welcome.

Diet? Weight? Let's just start with that and tell us. More often than not, the answer lies there.

Welcome by the way !
I told the nurse I would try to drop the weight without turning to drugs . Let’s see what happens over the coming weeks I don’t expect a mirical but every loss is a gain to a better me

Welcome to the forums. Weight gain is a symptom of T2 diabetes so not at all surprising that weight gain has accompanied your rising hba1c. But you're only just in diabetic range, so it shouldn't be too hard to reduce those levels by diet - hint, reduce the carbs in your diet and your levels and your weight should come down too. (Some people on here have reduced their hba1c from 100 to normal just by cutting carbs, but they probably have to be much more drastic in their dietary choices than you have to be.)

But as @VashtiB said, you need a meter otherwise you won't know how many carbs your body can cope with.

Good luck.

Welcome to the club. Everyone has been exactly where you are now. Good news is that there's no secret about how to get your BG levels back in the normal range, if you want to. Reduce the amount of carbohydrate in your diet, and test your BG at appropriate times to see the effect of that, as well as the impact that the remaining carbs have on you. If I can do it everyone can.

Best of luck, and keep posting.

If you want to give yourself the best chance to turn it around without meds, stop eating most carbs, and replace the calories with healthy fats. It may be more than is strictly necessary, but like I say... will give you best chance for a turn-around.
