Guy at support group today not sure why they want to send him on Xpert course. Anyone think he might benefit? Type 1 for 40 years I believe. I'm wondering if it's because some of the advice might have changed
@dbr10 I think any form of education at any stage of the condition's term can only be a good thing, even if it's re-enforcing what you already know, as there are so many aspects of this that are so important, whether it's illness and insulin, types of insulin etc, there's alot we can take for granted but having the education to ensure you stay on track is vital.
I also got sent on a carb counting course recently (I presume the course I went on it similar to the Xpert course) and I have also been type 1 for 40ish years, and whilst I didn't learn about carb counting there was stuff that was really useful to me - namely they were checking that everyones ratios and basal doses were correct,
And yes, just as I was typing my response helensaramay linked my thread about it
I hadn't known about counting carbs until DAFNE in 2009 [diagnosed 1999], but even so, that's just one, very easy part to the whole process......its all about the dose adjustment, spotting trends, basal testing etc........its good to meet other diabetics too......
