i thought about buying yoghurt for breakfast to have with berries
all the natural/greek plain yoghurts i saw in asda, all had sugar in around 6g
can you buy yoghurt without sugar in it?

Do you have a Lidl near you Ally?

I've started making my own yoghurt now (it's incredibly easy), but before that used to buy Lidl's on. It comes in a litre pot (about £1.49, if I recall) and used to last me over a week.
 
Hi, I buy Lidl's own Greek yogurt, it comes in a large pot and 3.2g carbs per 100g. It tastes lovely and I eat it with berries, make a Raita and Tatziki, add it to omelettes, coffee, just about anything

my latest batch is goat's milk. (Amazingly for me, full fat, but it's 4%).
Just had it for a mid day snack with a few raspberries in it.

I buy the Fage Total Greek Yogurt (full fat). It has 4 carbs per 100g.
I second that.
Total yoghurt 5g fat 3.6g surgar (lactose from milk) per 100g great with berries and mixed nuts. Have this for breakfast and my tryglicerides and halved since switching from porridge, BG have much improved since cutting out bread as well.
 
Shame. Have you ever made yoghurt? You don't need any fancy kit.

I get the full fat Total yoghurt from Tesco - their info does indicate both sugar and carbohydrate content (3.8 per 100grams). The fat free 0% version has marginally more at 4grms per 100grams. Unless you can get lactose free yoghurt i think that they will all have sugar/carbs from the lactose in the milk. Just make sure that you opt for a "no added sugar" pot of whatever brand you choose, as you have to accept that you can't always have food totally free from carbs, so small quantities such as this are usually acceptable when the food is otherwise good for us. Your berries and nuts will also contaIn a few carbs, but all three eaten in moderation are still a good healthy low carb breakfast.

I have the EasiYo Full Fat Greek Yoghurt with my breakfast.
When you say it has sugar in it do you mean the carbs or added sugar?
The EasiYo one is 6.5g per 100g.
My breakfast this morning with berries came to a total of 11.625g carbs :D
 
when i looked at the ingrediants, they all sais 6g of sugar or more

Yes, I was reckoning ion 10 to 15g carbs max for this sort of brekkie... So if Allie can find a "no added sugar" (i.e. unsweetened) yoghurt, she's fine.

Yes sorry Robbity, should have made myself clearer.

10 to 15g carbs for breakfast is pretty good going. I was having porridge until not too long ago and before that I was having an even higher carb breakfast. I've been having this for breakfast for about 6 months now and it has made my readings alot more predictable.

I've just had a look at Asda online. http://groceries.asda.com/asda-webstore/pages/landing/home.shtml#/product/910000284967
Their own brand Greek style yoghurt is made from milk, nothing added and has 6.6g carbs. (20p per 100g, 500g pot)
Their 'extra special authentic' Greek yoghurt has some cream in it and has 4 g carb (33.8p per 100g, 400g pot
Their own brand fat free Greek style yoghurt is made just from milk; probably skimmed, has 5.3g carb. (20p per 100g, 500g pot)

They sell Total fat free is made from skimmed milk, again nothing added has 4g carb. (47.6p per 100g, 500g pot)
The Total 2% fat yoghurt has 3.8g carbs (47.6p per 100g, 500g pot )
(much more expensive than the 'own brands'


As people have said these all contain just the natural 'milk sugars' that are part of the milk.
With normal portion sizes the difference in carbs is small.
Those that are full fat do have a lot more calories but if you are only eating the yoghurt with a few berries it won't amount to a lot of calories for breakfast and if it fills you up so you don't snack latter then it's better for you.
