This one is worthy of a Sun headline. Had a phone appointment with the diabetic nurse this afternoon. I had been prescribed a Libre2 blood glucos monitor by my diabetes doctor, as I had had a few scary hypos, but my GP practice refused to let me have one as I did not fit the criteria (so I am self-funding). I asked her what the criteria was, and she said "you have to either be a Type 1 diabetic, or a Type 2 with learning difficulties" ……….. you could not make this up!!!!!

Shocking, I would ask for another appointment with your GP, and explain to him why the dsn is wasting his time and threatening your health!

It could be worthwhile reading thr NICE guidelines before talking to your GP again. Their criteria meet NICE guidelines, but I note you have had a receommendation for the Libre from another Doctor. If the other Doctor is an NHS consultant, I expect his feelings and recommendation would be in writing, after the appointment where he recoomeded the course of action.
I'm guessing your argument will go around your hypos, so be sure to make it clear if these have been recurrent in nature.

Sometimes guidelines don't seem to make much sense.

Mine also said I need to continue to self fund as I was T2 & they only funded T1 in our area even though he agreed I was controlling it so well because of my Libre2 monitoring & could drastically cut my medication (which was funded), I am prone to hypos & would need to take BG readings 11x a day otherwise. Not sure how long we can continue as OH retired & I will in the near future.
