Bali Rob - Agreed.

It seems to me the Mod team on this site is very friendly and tolerate all sorts of behaviour, I'm joined to various other forums and with confidence can say some of the actions taken place on here recently would of landed these people a one way ticked to banned camp.

Instead of bashing the mod team, it seems they should be praised for being diplomatic and tolerable. The members make up a forum, everyone gets that, but its clear a authority figure is needed to repair, restore and maintain order.

So for those protesting and claiming they will leave, oh well, such is life. It's only you and a few of your followers/those within your social circle who really care.

The majority will move on quickly, newer members will become well informed, learn from these examples and restore the community.
 
Hello. I hope that my posts were accepted as constructive even if they were wrong(Im only human). I have only been a member a short while but my only motivation to post the things I did was to try to find a way out of what was growing. My interests are with diabetes.co.uk and I do not plan on going somewhere else, and yes I agree what was replied on my post, time to let it drop and get on with the important things like new friends and sharing experiences. If any of my posts were offensive then I apologise for that.

Cobra ... I think all posts are constructive, even the argumentative ones ... including mine :***: ... it's the only way to air differences, get things bashed out and resolved eventually. It's a brilliant forum, but even brilliance needs polishing now and then to keep it shining. I think we all, old and newcomers want the best for and from the forum. :thumbup:

Couldnt agree with you more, a couple of weeks back I saw my doctor regarding some sickness I was experiencing after weaning myself off Operozole, in the course of my appointment he said:

"I attended a course yesterday that advises GP's on the latest research by evaluating all the scientific research on various treatments and gives an evidence based assessment on the results and one of those treatments mentioned was Omperozole"

I wont bore you with the rest of the conversation except to say that I replied "what like the cochrane reviews?" and he said "yes, just like the cochrane reviews", apparently the course is designed to keep GP's up to date on current 'best advice' and included a large tome of papers giving the best evidence based conclusions to all modern treatments and medicines.

He told me that he had paid for this course himself but felt it was worth it and I imagine many doctors will also be attending similar courses now that they will have to be tested every year under new guidelines.

So, as Ive said many times on here, I, like you, would always prefer to listen to my medical team who generally have the best evidence based research at their disposal rather than some internet warrior or book or diet salespersons :thumbup:

No sorry Viv, no he didnt, he really only mentioned it in passing as I asked sheepishly about stopping my omprazole which Id actually already stopped and had to start again because of the sickness I was getting so by the time the appointment came Id sort of discovered why I had the sickness, sorry to be so long winded, any way he said that it was best to take the least amount of medication that I could and that id done the right thing to try to wean myself off it slowly as recent research had linked long term operozole to causing brittle bones or something, then he explained that it was only yesterday that he had heard about this research through this course etc....

If I remember the next time I see him I will ask about it and let you know.

With the new GP re-assessments now about to start I would think these courses are fairly common.

I've heard about that. From some of the experiences shared on here, it would appear that some GPs are woefully incompetent, not only with respect to Diabetes, but to a whole range of other medical conditions as well.

Like most professional and technical occupations, Continual Professional Development (CPD) is an integrated part of their careers. I have to go through it, as to many others.

I am lucky: my GP is fantastic, and there is another GP at the practice I use who is a GP Diabetes Specialist. We also have a Diabetes Nurse Specialist. Others aren't so lucky

Ursus262, I hope I'm not going to disillusion you, but as far as I know every multi-GP practice has one partner designated the DIabetes Specialist GP. Their effectiveness varies - I'm glad you have a good one . I don't get on with mine, so we've agreed that I see the partner I'm accustomed to. Our Practice Nurse - who is not a DSN, but who goes on as many courses as she can - is really clued up and is my chief collaborator. :wink:
