Type of diabetes
Type 1
Ok im new to this whole forum thing on this type of topic, so please bare with me. I am a 20 year old male and have had type 1 diabetes for 16 years. Im 5,7 and weigh around 130. I was just looking for some advice because no matter what I do I can't get my A1C under 10 for the past 3 years it has stayed around 13 and I drink about a 24 pack of water a day and still stay thirsty. So if anyone has any pointers or advice I would appreciate it greatly. Don't know how bad the effects of the constant high blood sugars and excessive thirst are affecting me. Thanks

If its insulin resistance thats the problem then you may just have to carry on increasing your dose, check with your doc or you might need to change insulin regime. Monitor it closely and get the surgery to prescribe more blood test strips, do a blood test before and after every meal then one before bed, its called 7 point testing. And if you don't have an app, get one like Mysugr or glucose buddy so that way you have an electronic diary on you all the time and log all your insulin doses to, thats if youre not already using a diary.

The more info you have you can make much better informed decisions about any changes you make to insulin doses and eating habits.

Are you in touch with your team about this ?

It sounds like you need to review your basal regime to start - if you search on the forum for basal testing, there have been some posts linked to it, if you can get this right then it's then a case of also reviewing your quick acting ratios to ensure they are covering your food intake. Also keep a diary of your results, a phone app like Diaconnect is excellent for monitoring your results, you can email results to your team for their advice or post it here for others to help you. It's not rocket science to get it right but you are definately in the right place for support.

Hi :)

Are there certain times of the day that your blood sugar is high?

Do you count carbs and adjust your insulin accordingly?
