ADA urges clinicians not to use the word diabetic to describe people with diabetes, among...

On one forum I was on I was called a Wiccan lesbian by a troll. I told my daughter and she thought it was funny her dad suffered such
sillyness! :) :)
PFH is far worse than diabetic.
D.

I think that actually sounds really cool as insults go. I'd take that!

"condemning the use of "diabetic" as a noun" - but not as an adjective?
Noun - He/she is a diabetic.
Adjective - he/she is diabetic.
What a load of PC balderdash !!
PC = pathetic claptrap (well, in this instance anyway) :-)

I have a hospital diabetes appointment this afternoon with Mr Turner and the DSN's, not looking for ward to it, BS has been all over the place, but I will try and remember to ask what their pc is for a PWD/ diabetic :nurse:

Thank you, Robbity, so I am now a Person With Type 1 Diabetes, but taking NovoRapoid and Levemir Insulin, so do not give me Insulin when I am hypoing or I will be a dead diabetic, ooops, I mean a dead Person With Diabetes and therefore 'not a dead diabetic' as it's not pc ;)
Person With Diabetes sounds worse to me................ what a crock  and I am a woman :D
Surely 'dead diabetic' = ex PWD (or XPWD or even /PWT1D in technospeak)

In the words of Shakespeare "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet" and by that token a PWD or a Diabetic would still have the wretched condition however they choose to describe them. We want a cure not political correctness. Save your time and effort for what is really important.

I am a person .. Just me .. :)

Patients are people ..was a course which hospitals put their staff on some years back ..
Yes patients are people .. But still with health conditions though ..

So am I am patient or a person when in a health setting ..
Well I like the person first .. Makes me feel empowered and equal ...

Still would like the best health care treatment for all though ..

How silly to say calling someone "diabetic" is not PC what difference does it make for goodness sake we have diabetes therefore we are diabetics.

Oh Kat, your post made me suddenly realise how quickly PWD Person with Diabetes would become Patient with Diabetes - always knew I was just a hospital number!!!,....... ;):D

I asked Mr T and he said he has never called anyone a diabetic and he has heard of the name changes to PWD.

personally doesn't bother me, id rather the person who was paid to come up with the rubbish do something constructive and worthwhile with their time, better not be being paid by my taxes!!!

I believe the 'A' in ADA stands for American, so we are not involved, and so far do not need to kowtow to this rubbish. I think personally that Diabetic signifies that I belong to the club no one wants to join, but once in I accept the label as being relevant to me. It qualifies me for free prescriptions after all. Other freebies it triggers can include reduced Life Insurance, improved annuities (?) and VAT free accessories. I even got Viagra for free for a while until it became contraindicated.

what a crock  and I am a woman :D

No you are not! Don't be so sexist; you are a person with 2 X chromosomes. But then is 'person' a bit personist? Does it unfairly exclude non-persons? I suppose you should be called a 'carbon based life form with 2 X chromosomes and diabetes' ? There, that's better...

:)

Oh no; what about non-life forms like rocks, sand and dieticians? That will probably offend them

Now that is just silly! Dieticians can't get offended. They know everything!

;)

Shouldn't that now be the American Association for People With Diabetes ;)
Persons are not People. It would anyway become American Persons With Diabetes Association APWDA

There are days when I don't feel like a life form at all. Indeed I had a boss that used to call us lowly workers as Pond Life on occasions. But whats in a name? We had worse names for him !!!!
