My low carb/IF Diet - BG and progress

Today's food was quite good. Enjoyed all of it.

L: Xmas pork stuffing, sprouts, broccoli and cauli mash and dollop of Branston. Diet Coke.

S: scratchings (don't really enjoy these like I used to - they've either changed formula or my tastes have changed!)

D: courgetti Bolognese, with cream and sprinkles of mozerrella.

Probably only managed a litre of water...must do better.

Tested a colleague today who had suspicions that she could be t2 and she was in pre diabetic stage. She wasn't really shocked. I've sent her off to her doc for some proper testing and will test her again tomorrow....

Left testing kit in car last night so didn't bother testing today. I think all is well.

L: roast chicken, cauli mash, broccoli, dollop Branston.

S: baby bel Gouda and coffee

D: fake away doner kebab in lettuce wraps, Mayo, Diet Coke. Bite of lidl protein roll with butter (couldn't resist before stowing in freezer!!)
 
Did you see " trust me i'm a doctor last night debmcgee, they are saying that the artificial sweetners in it are bad causing more people to get diabetes....ho hum or pre diabetes.

No I didn't....was it good? I think they think sweeteners gets people hooked on sweet stuff so we'll end up eating more. I bet they've only looked at that for people on a low fat diet who'd be starving anyway and more likely to wane. I'll try to watch it if it's on catch up though as I may learn something. I'll admit I do rely on sweeteners too much but I can't sacrifice everything all at once....

Debs, from what I recall (I was multi-tasking), they used a very small sample (about 6, I think) and focused on saccharin. They found that for a percentage of their subjects (around half? Someone may correct me, if necessary), experienced a rise in blood sugar levels. There was no comparative experiment on aspartame, although they did suggest some folks had issues with that too.

Stevia came out well. Not that I'm sending you off to buy it up, but I did notice today, in Sainsbo's, it's on offer. How "lucky" is that?

I just watched it! Apparently for 4/6 of saccharin group pushed into prediabetic range following a week of the sweetener. Stevia had little impact.

Very interesting. I actually prefer stevia over everything else but it's not in things like Diet Coke or my coffee syrups. So good news for my Greek yoghurt. Bad for coffee

I am now wondering @clive if this could be a reason why my bg doesn't drop as dramatically as others?! Thank you for sending me off to watch it - very enlightening.

I'm just waiting to see the fasting experiment results next...!
 
@Debmcgee - It will be interesting to look back at your fasting data once you have a full month there. Firstly, I'm sure you'll have an overall material improvements, but secondly, I wouldn't be too surprised if you were to find you end up having two "Deb Ranges" - one for workdays and the other for weekends/holidays.

Personally, I didn't think I had any DP whatsoever, until I used the Libre. The Libre shows that I have a very small DP, unless I need to be up at a certain time - for a business meeting/airport run/appointment - when I am attuned to look at the clock when I rouse. At the weekends/playdays when I can do luxuriant snoozes - or at least, not bounding out of bed like Tigger - my profile is a bit different.

It'll fall into place. We can all be impatient, but in some ways that impatience/drive/will is what means it's more likely to work.
 
I watched the sweetener experiment & was very surprised to see saccharin raised BS levels. My choice of sweetener for years has been Hermesetas, that is saccharin based, for tea & coffee of which I drink a lot. I remember years ago when I first became diabetic getting round boxes of saccharin from Boots-they were horrible!

So I'm going to try Stevia & see what happens...?

Thanks, Deb. Now retired to France& i don't get the Stevia sweeteners until next Wednesday. Regarding the Freestyle Libre is that available on prescription in UK or do you have to keep buying the sensors-that's a question for a previous participant on this thread. I currently use an Accu-Chek Mobile that is very discrete & easy to use, but no finger pricking would be great.

PS I'm not a medical doctor but a Doctor of Psychotherapy Practice, or I was in the UK!

The Libre isn't available on the NHS, so anyone using it is funding it themselves.
The first purchase (reader and 2 sensors) works out at approx £135, after that, you use a sensor when you want, at about £50 each for 2 week sensor-life.

So it has an ongoing cost. I suppose we all have to weigh up the benefits v the drawbacks... I love it, but can't justify year round use, unfortunately.
