Hi,

So this time last week i was told i was actually type 1 instead of type 2 (which i was told i was 9 months ago and have been having medication for type 2). Anywho, After all the confusion of what type i am and changing of medication, I have started using Humulin KwikPen, i take 14 units of a night time just before bed and 10 units after my breakfast ( Also take 1000mg of Metformin with my dinner) Now i find that my bloods are sky high before bed, I eat healthy and less than i used to ive also cut out fatty foods and any sort of fizzy drinks basically gone cold turkey. I try to walk most nights or do some sort of exercise to lower them. but still feel like im not doing something right.

Now I have a few questions.
Does anyone have any tips on other ways to lower the blood sugars?
I've had my first ever Low while being diabetic. What do you recommend eating/drinking to get the sugars back up but not to high?
Treats that aren't Terrible for your BS?
Any other advice that youve learn over the time?

Thanks
A very new and confused type one

Is the Humulin the only insulin you're on? Is it a mixed version you're on?

Exercise is a good way to lower blood sugar, going for walks and things are a good idea! To get your blood sugar back up, I would recommend either the very small 150ml size cans of coke or a small carton of orange or apple juice! They all contain about 10g of carbohydrate which should push you up around 2-3mMol/L!

Ask for immediate referral to a diabetic clinic with an endocrinologist. Nobody on earth could control T1 on your regime. You need a doctor who knows what he/she is actually doing.

Agree with above. You need a doctor who knows what they are talking about. I initially was miss diagnosed. Was always meant to be t1 apparently. I ended up seeing a specialist. I was on a mix insulin to start with but had high levels. I ended up with novo rapid and levimir background.
I use jelly babies and glucose 4g tabs. When I get a hypo I use 3x4g tabs or 3-4 jelly babies. I wait 15 mins then re-test. I tend to stay away from drinks to combat hypo just mess me up. You most likely need to try a few things.

I agree too. You need proper backup. Insist on being referred to specialist!

PS: Anti-hypo. It depends how low you are. Experiment. For me, two Dextrosols (6g carb) will raise me 2 mmol if I'm in low 3's. If I'm 3.8, one (3g carb per Dextro) will do it. I always carry them: they live in my kit pouch.
