Signs before diagnosis

I have found that over the last week I have had a dry mouth and constant thirst even when just drank. I am going to the toilet more often and noticed some times a smell of like sugar puff but this isn't all the time. I also have a pain on and off under left rib and get like a ache/ tingling arm feeling which is also in fingers. Can any one relate to this for early signs.

You can buy urine test strips fairly easily online and test your second wee of the morning in your own home. Having a positive result of any sort is grounds to think your sugar levels may be high. But it's not embarrassing to see your doctor and give him a sample. He can test it while you wait in most cases. A negative test on the urine strip may simply mean you do have high sugar, but just not high enough to register. But by then of course your doctor and you will have had a helpful chat about your concerns. I asked the question just by chance, last January and was diagnosed type 2 very soon after. You may actually be doing yourself a favour if you find out now. Come back and let us know how you get on. All the best.

No one here is able to make a diagnosis as we're not medical professionals, but if you're worried then the best thing to do is to see your doctor or the surgery nurse and get a blood test done

Is there any reason why you're concerned about diabetes? That is, does anyone in your family have it, or do you feel you're at risk for certain reasons?

Hi no one in my family has as I'm aware but only no from one side. I have looked in to the home test but to be honest I don't understand really what the reading mean as its all new.

I had a blood test done about two years ago but was clear but over the last three weeks I have lost weight no dieting always got dry mouth and drinking and then noticing changes in smell in wee. The pain is like a ache that is under ribs mainly left side

It sounds like a visit to the doctor would be sensible, if only to,reassure you.

The symptoms you've described could have a number of causes, and may not be related to each other. I suggest you make a few notes about your symptoms eg how much weight you've lost, how much you're drinking per day, and see your GP.

Hi. Thirst, frequent loo trips and a strange smell could be diabetes or something else. Get a quick test done with a urine stick or most pharmacies will do a meter test for free and take it from there.

I agree. The symptoms you describe could be an indication of a UTI such as Candida, I had similar when i got thrush. When i was Dx'ed asT2D I had none of these sympoms at all.

I generally go through the night without micturation, but I wake frequently when I suffer a UTI. I also need to wee just after i gave just had one with a UTI, and it can be urgent.
Get a urine test done by a doc. it will determine either problem if present. it is easy to do, and something the Dr is used to doing, so no need to be embarrassed. A practice nurse or health visitor can also do the test.
