Hello, i am having problems with my readings, every morning my readings before breakfast are highest than any other time of the day or night. For example this mornings reading was 9.8, yet yesterday after breakfast(2 hours after breakfast), my reading was 5.4, then before lunch it was 4.8,after lunch it was 6. Am i being naive to think, if the previous evening i never had any food after 8 oclock, normally take my levels in the morning at 7 oclock, why are my readings highest?
I take Gliclazide 80mg every morning with breakfast, then 1 Metformin 500mg per day. To give a understanding of my diet and daily routine, for breakfast i normally have 3 weetabix with soya milk, lunch is always mixed fresh salad with sardines, dinner is normally fresh veg, chicken breast. I feel like i am living like a Monk, never ever eat Sweet things, never had a sweet tooth(thank god),i exercise every day, including at least a one hour power walk.I do not smoke or drink (i sound real rock n roll).I have found the whole Diabetes issue very frustrating, extremely confusing,so many different conflicting messages from different studies, authorities etc. I would be very interested to hear from anyone with any advice, experience and help. Many thanks for reading my post.

That would be a liver dump in all likelihood and normally the last figures that are hard to control. Not bad numbers I have to say.

Amazed you can get away with cereals :)

Yes, agreed. It sounds like a liver dump, otherwise known as Dawn Phenomenon. There are thousands of threads about it on the forum if you do a search. It is perfectly natural, although very annoying!

I'm also amazed at you coping with cereal!

... and get your grounding here so we can let you know as best we can. Experts abound here on just about any topic to do with the condition. I'd like to know your last blood readings (Hba1C) and what they were when you were diagnosed. Stick around, you will learn a lot but to be honest, sounds as though you already have :)

Hello there, just to add my tuppence worth! Agree with previous posters, you are doing really well and the high fbg will lower eventually. Mine took about 6 weeks to come down a bit and then suddenly one day it dropped quite sharply and then stabilised at a low reading. Never say never!

Welcome and I also agree with all the above including getting away with the Weetabix. As @Mike D pointed out your numbers are pretty good and @13lizanne indicated it may just be a matter of being patient and they will begin to drop. While it seems counter intuitive as you have your cereal after your fasting tests I wonder if it wouldn't be worth a trial of dropping the Weetabix for a week and going with bacon and eggs or sausage and eggs or just eggs and seeing if that change to your regular diet over a number of days may have some impact.
Great to see you posting and let us know how you get on
Cheers

I keep seeing people suggesting that Weetabix and Porridge should be given up - I would be totally lost without being able to eat those for breakfast ... fortunately though, at the moment I also am able to eat those without spiking (touch wood) and will not be giving them up

Thank you all for your replies and advice, very grateful. I must be very naive, i thought weetabix would be ok,obviously a lot to learn. I am very new to all this,i clearly need to research much more. My GP has seen my diet and never said anything about the cereals. I have my diabetic nurse appointment in the morning, so i shall ask plenty of questions. Once again , many thanks for all the replies.
