Thanks Fene48
The dog still ducks out and nips at the ankles occasionally but I feel with the weight-loss and BG control I am now able to cop so much better
Cheers
Good stuff and keep coping. Don't forget to kick the mutt in the ribs - with boots on.
Hooroo!

I had a look at the link but was not to impressed with their assertion that T2 is all down to life style choices and that the people taking part where not chosen by T2 diabetes but that they chose it.

I have to agree with the programme. T2 may not be all down to lifestyle for a minority but I have yet to meet a single person whose T2 wasn't caused by lifestyle and dietary choices. I work as a PT and specialise in working with diabetics. In 26 years of doing this I haven't come across one person who didn't actively encourage the development of their T2.

That is interesting.

I have been actively FIGHTING weight and hormone issues for about 35 years now.
But none of the health professionals i have dealt with during that period have done anything other than weigh me, tell me to lose weight, exercise and try harder - and write out prescriptions.

None of them have a clue about my daily diet and efforts. They never ask what i am doing before they give advice, or find out the efforts, the research, the knowledge, the understanding I am already doing. They just automatically assume (like you have just done) that i am encouraging my own ill health.

Thank goodness you and i will never meet.
You wouldn't enjoy the experience.

You never know, eventually you could develop diabetes yourself so that would presumably make it one.
You won't feel so smug then, will you?

Err, this is probably a stupid question - what's a PT?

I am assuming its a Physical Trainer.
So a limited knowledge of endocrinology, and (in this case) an excess of self opinion.

Contrary to what is implied here, I don't have a limited knowledge base. After 26 years of "putting my money where my mouth is" and a MSc in exercise science along with numerous other nutrition qualifications (yes, not a dietician because they are too restricted in their ability to help people) and 'down on the ground' involvement with this, I stand by what I say. It always makes people feel better to have something to blame (oh it's my hormones) and this may be true for a small minority but this is by and large a self inflicted affliction. Thank god there are people now who are willing to look beyond 'accepted' knowledge and try to find something that works and I'm glad that an influential body like diabetes UK are promoting a LCHF lifestyle.

What about Dr Tim Noakes then? Marathon runner following advised 'Prudent Diet' for 30 years. While ever the official agencies are recommending excessive carbohydrates, as they are, how can you blame the individuals who are following these guidelines for their illness? Not everybody has the time / ability / understanding to do all the hours of research that some of us do. The official guidelines, promoted by every doctor, endocrinologist, diabetic nurse, dietician, care worker, should be the right ones. School meals and hospital food should be based on real whole food and low carb. Hospitals should not have MacDonalds and KFCs inside them, schools should not have tuck shops. Mothers should not be told to wean their babies onto pure carbohydrates. Cereals should not be labelled Heart Healthy, Frankenstein foods (like the dreadful cholesterol lowering spreads) should have a public health warning. Where do you stop?

Not saying that at all. I agree that people should get the right advice from official guidelines however, I haven't come across anyone following 'Prudent Diet' advice to have T2. That obviously doesn't mean that it doesn't happen. The point I was making was that every single client I've had in 26 years with T2 has overdone the carbs and didn't have appropriate activity levels. The problem is that self report and self assessment is very inaccurate and these clients were grossly under reporting and underestimating the junk they were putting into their bodies.

Of course you have a limited knowledge base.
You have just listed it.
Far too limited to justify the comment you made.

I do sometimes it find it hard when a predjudiced, judgemental person butts in, and when they also haven't the faintest idea about diabetes and what it's like to battle it, nor other hormonal issues.

I will try to behave though.

Omg? My dad was a bare knuckle fighter in his youth. He was fit as a butchers dog. He didn't drink. He packed in smoking in 1975. He had a 32 inch waist. He did 100 press ups and sit-ups every night. More if he didn't like the look if his blood sugars. He followed the low fat diet he was told as a type 2
Similar for his 3 brothers who were also diagnosed. One of his sisters was diagnosed type 2 - she wasn't a bare knuckle fighter. A bit more sedate.
His mum was type 2 his nan was type 1 and died before insulin was discovered. I'm type 1. I have 3 cousins who are type 1. All on the same side of the family. Lifestyle ermmmmmm nothing to do with genetics eeeerrrrrmmmm!
AM I ALLOWED TO SWEAR? I'd really like to swear.

I feel compelled to point out that this site, and it's suggestion of reduced carbing is not Diabetes UK. The site associated, directly with Diabetes UK is here: https://www.diabetes.org.uk/Guide-t...I-have-Type-2-diabetes/What-can-I-eat-type-2/

You may note there that a "balanced diet" is recommended.

This site is DCUK, not Diabetes UK.

I believe there is a point to consider that those T2D you have had presenting themselves to you for work, have perhaps already decided they have lifestyle issues.

As Dr Assem Malhotra states, "You can't outrun a poor diet".

What sort of "appropriate exercise" would you advocate for Sir Steve Redgrave?

I ate my way into type 2.
Very easy to see, and to accept my mistake.
Beauty of that was I could eat, (or not eat in fact) my way out again.

Diet, and exercise, and a substantial weight loss and lifestyle change, and my type 2 is well into remission.

You move in the wrong circles ... including this forum. You can hardly stand by what you say when you clearly don't know the first thing about it

Everyone's welcome.
If their experience isn't popular, I'm sure @Administrator can decide if they shouldn't be here.
