Massive BBC News Article This Morning

I did manage to watch the ITV article one on the internet - well done, Dr Malhotra!

@Brunneria - you're right - some people seem to see LCHF as a licence to gorge fat without reducing the carbs as well. I see it more as Low Carbs Full Fat rather than high fat.

You can watch it on iplayer. I've just got back from work so am about to find it on Iplayer. I heard a bit on the lunchtime news as I was driving to a meeting, but they had two experts on who couldn't agree.....

It's not on there! I looked it up and apparently the programme can't be put on iPlayer because of rights reasons.
 
There will be a fight back. The nutritionist "experts" won't take this lying down.

Expect an onslaught of articles rubbishing this soon.

That's true there will be. The thing is though, who are the real experts? The people I saw speaking on TV today were all either skinny or normal weight. What would they really know about obesity? Insulin sensitive individuals don't have a clue what it's like to be insulin resistant. How could they? My husband and sons have often told me that childbirth isn't very painful...

You're right! I've just found that out too. I wonder why not? I've seen a bit of the lunchtime news which had a cut-down version of the same article, but seeing the whole thing would be useful. Maybe someone will put it on Youtube?

Thanks for the link - Trudi & the other LCHF team are making a tremendous point that the opponents do not acknowledge - the combination of research, real experience of authors & patients shows convincingly that LCHF actually works in practice for diabetes & weight control.

The opposition claim that HCLF is supported by scientific papers is questionable & if the standard advice is actually being followed, it's NOT working. All the diseases it is supposed to control are increasing to epidemic proportions.

I've looked at a lot of the references & it is rare to see a reference that supports the assertion that low fat is good & that high fat is bad.

I heard the Radio 4 interview & Trudi's appearance with the professor.

There's an awful lot of ignorant prejudice out there.

I've just checked up on the DUK website regarding their "position statement":

Diabetes UK produced a position statement on low-carbohydrate diets for people with Type 2 diabetes who want to lose weight. Diabetes UK reviewed the evidence and reached the following conclusions:

  • Evidence exists suggesting that low-carbohydrate diets can lead to improvements in HbA1c and reductions in body weight in the short term (less than one year).

  • Weight loss from a low-carbohydrate diet may be due to a reduced calorie intake and not specifically as a result of the carbohydrate reduction associated with this diet.

  • Despite the short-term benefit there is a lack of evidence related to the long-term safety and benefit of following this diet.
My comment:

That study includes refs up to 44 months.

Note:

Why are they looking for improvements in diabetes & weight control ? Because their HCLF diet leads to progression of the disease, & all the related costs of heart disease, neuropathy, amputation, etc.

Those conclusions indicate that LCHF has definite benefits for the duration of the trial, & NO harmful effects. Are they concerned about long term safety? In my case their recommended HCLF diet caused serious progression of my condition, whereas LCHF transformed my health so that 8 years on I have no adverse health conditions.

But the thousands of folk who have gone against the DUK diet & gained control of the disease - as reported on e.g. www.diabetes.co.uk/forum - do not represent a proper scientific study so must be totally discounted........

I like Biffa even with his unfortunate name:)

I've read some of his work and listened to s few interviews. He talks a lot of sense and is a Brit to boot:)


Diagnosed 13/4/16: T2, no meds, HbA1c 53, FBG 12.6, Trigs 3.6, HDL .75, LDL 4.0, BP 169/95, 13st 8lbs, waist 34" (2012 - 17st 7lbs, w 42").

14/6/16: FBG AV 4.6, Trigs 1.5, HDL 2.0, LDL 3.0, BP 112/68, BPM 66, 11st 7lbs, waist 30". Lifelong migraines and hay fever gone.

Regime: 20g LCHF, run 1 mile daily, weekly fasting.
 
Unfortunately Dr Briffa seems to have stopped his blog, podcast, etc since he became a father. Must be over 2 years since he posted anything :(
