Thanks. I am still wondering about why my latest change had such a dramatic result. I have been regularly having 2 slices of toast to break my fast, as this stopped a liver dump later in the day. I tested this meal, and established that it only raised my bgl by less that 1 mmol/L I kept it going even as my bgl averages fell, because it is one thing that I repeat, so should not interfere with my main bgl monitoring.

But i think I have established my personal fat trigger level. Previously I could see that although my bgl averages had reached prediabetic levels, they had stopped falling. i also found out that i had no ketones registering, so I was probably not going into ketosis, and leaving me with higher than expected triglycerides.

Dropping the second toast slice had, I think, triggered ketogenic switchover. I am definitely seeing Dawn Phenomenon which I am convinced is the protein metabolising to glucogen via gluconeogenesis, which only really occurs during keto mode

This makes sense to me. I have been working on going into and staying in Ketosis this week and have dropped my carbs to sub 20g where possible. The toast in the mornings is interesting it just reaffirms how we can all react differently BG wise to different foods. Good luck with this change up and let us know how it progresses
 
hi only join, before I was 18st 6. In Dec 2014, 17th Dec, a date fore ever in my mind , I had a heart Attack , found out I had Type 2, I was 18st 6, now I am 15st 8, Been a long hard figth,better, but still carrying on the diet, not sure when it going to end,
 
Just had report back from DCN appointment I had last week. HbA1c dropped from 53 to 44. Weight static. No major hypo's. DCN recommends continued support for testing, and agrees with LCHF diet continuing at reduced carb input at 50g per day. Warned me of increased risk of hypo due to Gliclazide, and agreed my plan to reduce dosage of this. My new target requirement has been set at 53 again. I did express a target wish of 36-38 but was advised that this is too low (?????) this is not recorded in my notes but it is recorded that my current level of 44 is considered too low as well.

My daily average bgl from both my meters is currently 6.1 mmol/l which corresponds to a projected HbA1c of 36.7 so I am already at MY target.

The letter to my GP officially discharges me from requiring any further specialist support, and I am back with my GP as primary care.

EDIT to update. My GP has responded to my letter, and has agreed all my suggestions, including my proposed target of 36. He is continuing support for self monitoring, and has put me on annual reviews unless I lose the plot.

My mum's Hba1C has dropped to 36.6 nmol/mol (5.5%) !Since she has anemia, her real hba1C is lower because I have calculated a lowered one 33.3 (5.2%) based on her daily BS monitoring (not proposed by our doc..so at my expense)
Lipid profile-no real improvement except HLD TC>2g & LDL>1g
 
Woot!! First sub 6 reading.... 5.9 ... and I had pavlova for lunch, after a weekend of 8's and 9's and a lot of frustration it feels **** good ...
(well aside from the constant nagging headache that seems to have been following me around since I started on this little adventure)
 
12 months ago I was threatened with insulin as I was already taking 2000 mg Metformin per day and results were all getting worse. Reading this forum I decided to lwer carbs and stop eating so much fruit. I combined this with prayer. This check up I was told that if it was not for my five year history of diabebtes I would be considered pre diabetic. Fel exstatic.
 
first post diagnosis check up yesterday (7.5 weeks), had the Hb1ac bloodwork done a week ago (6.5 weeks) - 3 month average down from 12.8 to 8.9 - as it's a 3 month average, and I've only been at it 6 weeks she is exceptionally pleased with my progress - I think she was a tad shocked, I don't think she has a lotta folks able to 'go it alone' and get a handle on it so quickly.

Last 3 weeks numbers are pretty steady between 5.5 and 7.5 ... so she's happy and we're quite sure the 3 month average will be down next time if I keep this up.

Kidney function good, cholesterols and blood pressure are fine - wasn't even worried about doing a foot exam (just a 'mind you be careful with em and watch for anything') ... and an appointment for the optometrist in August (first available)

And I'm down 6 lbs

Everyone is very pleased :)
 
Blood Glucose readings are slowly dropping - very pleased about that - not so pleased that doctor not happy and put me on even more medication.

Really looked at Low Carbs and High Fat as the food option that seems to make a huge difference to people - gave it a try and seems to work so now really trying to get to grips with it - all still confusing but the forum is helping me day by day to understand more and more and to keep making even tiny little steps in the right direction.

Fasting Blood Sugars are higher than any other time of day - find this frustrating but learning that it is nothing I am doing but my body thinking for itself !
Increased exercise and this is making a big difference - still have a lot of weight to lose so exercise is a bit limited but making the daily effort.
Doctor and Diabetic Nurse not the greatest - very negative in general - but with the help of the forum I am finding my own way through and hoping in time to cut back on the some of the medication.

I feel I have come a long way in just over a year. Blood sugar readings have more than halved in that time.

Hello. I've been with the forum since finding it in January when it helped me decide to change my diet. My Hba1c was 8.2 last summer and even with trying really hard it had only come down to 8.1 by mid Jan. I have been T2for 23 years and have been steadily increasing medication after 8 years on diet alone. The rise to 8+came after another problem caused a tweak in mefication
 
Bother hit the wrong thing. The tweak in medication and consequent rise was the last straw so after reading loads especially on here I bit the lower carb bullet. I haven't gone very low as I like my fruit too much but have managed to drop my Hba1c to 6.4 (47) for the first time in fifteen years. I have also reduced two gliclazide and lost 10kilos. Can't wait to discuss this with doctor on Monday. It should be an interesting discussion. Thank you everyone for all the helpful tips, comments and information! X
 
Spot reading on the rise these last two weeks. HbA1c down from 63 to 44, Metformin halved. I'll take that as progress. My personal targets remain tighter than those of my HCP's
 
Hi ai am Elizabeth Type 1 Diabetic and have been for nearly 43 years I started having eye complications in 2012 bleeds laser etc things began to get worse I was transferred to The Heath Hospital in Cardiff where I became a patient of Mr Roger McPherson I first of all had a vitectromecty this seemed to work and had the necesserary laser treatment first check up fine then before my next check up Had a sort of roller blind effect coming down and colours yellows purples went to GP who phoned the hospital who did not appear to be concerned then luckily I had an appointment the following week my eyesight at this stage was very bad and when I had the eye test could not read the letters or even see the board I saw Consultant Registar who when looked into my left eye sai you have a detached retina and said he would get my Surgeon straight away who then confirmed it was this I felt very very frightened but thank goodness Mr McPherson said he would operate in the afternoon

I had the operation and had the gas etc but thankfully all went went Mr McPherson and his team are an amazing and I thank them all for their knowledge and expertise without them I would not have my precious eyesight I have had new lenses cater act operations Injections Lucenta this is amazing stuff

I just want to say a big thankyou to All my Team of brilliant human beings and how very fortunate we are in this country for our incredible National Health service and am now better controlling my diabetes and this helps to hopefully keep me free from these scary complications
To all of the diabetics who have had similar to me and maybe going through this at present put your trust in these amazing Opthalmologists Nurses if fact all who work on Ward 8 at The Heath thank-you from the bottom of my heart
 
Ive had my 6 month blood test having been diagnosed in January with type 2. I'm now down from 54 to 36 with glucose therefore out of dia and pre diabetic range. No fatty liver evidence and lost 45 lbs.
it felt amazing to hear "all normal, no action". But I know this has been a wake up call and will continue. Thanks forum
 
Afternoon everyone, my blood glucose reading 2 hours after my lunch today is 5.6 -- I have been working on getting down into the 5. something area for months and today there it is.:)
Now weight loss for me this week but that is OK - I feel I have to balance the weight loss and the blood sugars so if the sugar readings are down and the weight has stayed the same then I am OK with that.:happy:
I am learning to be a little kinder to myself and accept that my personal road my have a few pot holes and bumps along the way but if I can stay on the road then it is OK. I still struggle with an evening meal, I get fed up with meat and veg - I miss curry and rice but I am hoping in time that I can allow myself the odd treat and have a very small amount of rice - once the weight has dropped a bit further and the blood glucose levels become more stable - something to look forward to.
 
Hi everyone, I would like to say firstly thanks to diabetes.co.uk you are brill, also thanks to all the post from people I have read on this fantastic forum because I am sure that without you all I would have struggled thanks to you all. Now down to why I am on an high today. When I was first diagnosed back in around 2006 ish I had struggled for along time without any information , I was having blood glucose readings of around 18 to 20 and couldn't keep away from the loo. I was also about 20stone. Then I found this group called xpert diabetes six week course, now that helped no end and then I found Diabetes.co.uk. I then had and invertation to go on a trial with LIXISENATIDE now that's when's really started to beat this problem. Over a period of about 18months I have lost about 5stone my BC readings have slowing come down to 4.4 on average, a 14 day average is at about 5.3. I have been off Lixisenatide now for about 2 month and my weight is holing steady, before I forget the LC diet is fantastic. At the start my HBA1C was between 80-100 then 70-60-50 and today got my latest results from doctor and it was 37 wow I could jump a fence.my doctor now wants to have a chat regarding reducing my medication. Could type 2 be beaten, who knows. My wish now is that my little story will help othersThanks to you all JB
