I am diagnosed as a prediabetic, here in New Zealand the doctors want you to become a full blown diabetic until they will do anything for you. there is no support and as I had occasion to visit the nurse with a concern I did not get any answers to resolve the issue. The problems I seem to be getting is hypo's 2.4 -1.7 mmol,

I have had 6 that I know of do not know why I get them but I am told that as a prediabetic I should,t be getting them at all. There is no explanation as to what is happening, should I be concerned or just get on with it?

Can someone shed some light for me.

Hi @Katarina , welcome to the forums.

Is it safe to assume that you are not (yet) on medication?

Do the lows happen after eating? After exercise? Any other trend?

Have you looked into reactive hypoglycemia? There's a section of the forum here--perhaps look around and see if that might resonate with your experience?

As someone has already, to help you we need to know what meds you are on.

Again, if not, you may be hypoglycaemic, which means for some reason, your blood glucose levels drop below normal levels. Which is not good!

GPs are not trained to recognise the rarer types of metabolic conditions.

Do have a look at our forum, there is some useful information on there.

If you need answers, just ask, the only stupid questions are the ones not asked.

Best wishes.

Treatment in the UK is based on waiting for the patient to get worse before the NHS does anything about it. An approach criticised by a group of doctors in the Lancet recently.

Indeed, and if you take care of yourself, and address your glucose issues, and take steps to reduce blood glucose and increase physical activity, they turn round and tell you that you don't even have prediabetes any more. lol.

You are quite right I am not on medications, the lows happen any time there is no pattern if there was I could perhaps sort it out, the last was at 2.30 am it was quite low 1.7 and I woke up with a terrific hunger and feeling of sickness that became intolerable. But i am over it now.

Do have a look at our forum, click on forums at the top of the page, scroll down to Reactive Hypoglycaemia and click, there is a lot of information about hypoglycaemia and how to deal with it.
