Lidl High Protein Low Carb Rolls

By the way, I weighed 2 of the rolls I bought today. Both were 132g. the same as the last one I weighed a week or two ago, so it seems ours haven't been reduced in size.

They also bake 2 batches daily at our Lidl.

I messaged Lidl UK on Facebook but was simply advised to contact their customer services. I had already done that, and still await a reply. I suppose being a weekend they are not working.

I popped down to our Lidl today to buy as many as I could. I emptied the basket - got 14 rolls to add to the 10 already in my freezer. They should last a while.
I couldn't get to Lidl today but I am not panicking, honest :nailbiting::arghh::nailbiting:

I predict a riot if they do discontinue them though. They are supplying cheap, tasty bread that many diabetics can eat. No other supermarket is doing that so they have struck PR gold.

@andrew_333 Burgen soya and linseed bread from many supermarkets is fairly low carb. Livlife from Waitrose too. Not as filling or low carb as Lidl though in my opinion.

I am just back from Lidl where I asked (interrogated?) the man at the ovens about these rolls.

He says there are TWO products:

Code 79358 relates to the big rolls. These are being phased out. The code is still in use (see photo of his bakery folder below) as not all stores have discontinued them yet. This might explain why @Bluetit1802 is still managing to buy big ones.

Code 124342 relates to the new, smaller rolls. They have the same allergens, but he could not say if the recipe had changed as they are not prepared in-house.

Perhaps the customer service person who emailed someone to say they had been discontinued was referring to the ones with the old code?

I asked the bakery man if the rolls were good sellers and he said, "Not really. We tend to put them out and they are either unsold or someone will come in and buy a big load." I have no idea what he is talking about. I bought eight and legged it

Avocado, your PI skills are magnificent.

You deserve some kind of medal for this, going above and beyond...

Thank you!

It still doesn't explain though why some people have none in their stores. Perhaps it is a transition thing..out with the old, but not yet in with the new.

If anyone fancies some light reading someone asked about the Low GI bread so I emailed Lidl and got sent a complete list of bakery items with their nutritional breakdown. It has both styles of high protein roll both with the sam carbs per 100g.
the Low GI bread is not good...

I reckon we need a thread titled "Ask Avo", where we can dispatch you off to find "stuff" out. Obviously we wouldn't ask you about the meaning of life, as we all know the answer is 42 already.

I wouldn't even make a fuss about Intellectual Property Rights over the thread, or even charge you a reassuringly massive fee. How generous is that?

No chance! You would want me squeezed into one of those dayglow Anneka Rice jumpsuits!

Big thank yous to @Avocado Sevenfold and @bulkbiker

:)

So it seems once a shop has exhausted their supply of the big rolls, they may start selling the smaller rolls. Phew. My shop still had the large ones on Sunday, except I cleared the basket completely. That does explain why mine weighed 132 grams.

I had this from customer service today:

Re: Availability of High Protein Roll

Unfortunately this item is not available in our stores at the moment and I am unable to provide a specific date for its return. I am hopeful that this will be available in the future. In the meantime, I have passed your interest in this item to our Buying Department for their information.

Thank you again for contacting us.

Yours sincerely,

Just bought a load of Lidl protein rolls, and they look to be bigger again (but the same price).

I weighed four and they varied between 115g (2) 120g and 125g.

Hugs needed. Please form an orderly queue :(

Just back from my local Lidl in Yoker where I was told the rolls have been discontinued there. They are a limited range store so wont be restocking them. They are still available elsewhere but not in some smaller stores. Went to Govan and got the only four tiny ones available :grumpy:

Caister didn't have any last week but I got a couple in Great Yarmouth on Thursday. If they have them tomorrow I'll stock up and freeze them.

On the subject of freezing; I keep the rolls out of the freezer in a plastic bag, but run water over them then heat in the oven for 10 minutes to freshen them up.

This strategy is fine for up to 6 rolls if you are eating 1 or 2 a day. If you eat one a week then freeze them.:)

My nearest Lidl (10 miles) is now making the little ones, at the same 29p price of course. I still eat half a one at a time but now tend to have the second half sooner, like breakfast and lunch.

Blimey ! the 29p one is the small roll ?? That's all I've ever seen and they seem pretty large. Half is plenty for me. :)
