No not a misunderstanding on my part. my doctor said I would not be type 2 only type 1 based on my profile. I have to listen to her as the health professional. I'm fully aware that type 1 is autoimmune and also that it can progress quite slowly in adulthood. I do apologise if I've offended you or anyone else. Thank you for the information. I know I've said this before but I mean it now. ..I think I'll stay off this site until (if) I get a diagnosis.

Asparagus - I love that thought! I do hope that's true :D my paternal grandmother is diabetic but I suppose that doesn't mean I'm destined to get it.

P.S I'm not neglecting my baby to post on here. Baby is currently fast asleep :)
Sorry where does your baby come into it?

I'm not offended but I am confused and concerned by your inconsistant postings.

When you posted on 28 October "I have been told I'm type one" were you actually told you are type one? It seems a bit different to now waiting for a diagnosis.

Not sure what kind of doctor you have received advice from. While it's an easy common assumption that type 2 diabetics are fat, there are plenty of type two diabetics with reasonable BMI. Type 2 diabetes is a portfolio condition encompassing anything that isn't type 1, it doesn't require the patient to be overweight. Being overweight is a risk factor for type 2 diabetes, other factors include hormone imbalances causing insulin resistance (which you have had with GD), high stress (which causes hormone imbalances) shift work. There are many people with type 2 diabetes who have never had a problem with their weight.

It seems your doctor may have been oversimplifying with "because your thin your type 1" especially as it seems to have left you with the impression that you have type 1, when you haven't actually been diagnosed with diabetes. If this has come from the same doctor who has declined to run an antibody test it seems that you may have misinterpreted what you were told in that consultation. If you aren't clear on what you were told, it's fine to ask your doctor to explain again.

That sounds strange as - as you probably know - GD puts you at slightly increased risk for Type 2 not Type 1, so it's surprising that the doctor should say that. As a general comment and not having a go at your doctor, I've found that knowledge of diabetes can be patchy in GP surgeries, especially if something 'different' arises.

As I've said before, you're quite right about Type 1 usually progressing more slowly in adults. However, it's more than likely that if you were in the very early stages of Type 1 being pregnant would have made that latent Type 1 very obvious and you'd have needed insulin.

You haven't offended anyone :)
