Hi There

When I joined this site i didnt know what option to click so just chose prediabetic however this isnt strictly true
I dont know what I am

I have frequent, dangerous lows
Have been as low as 1.6 and am only still here as my dog saved me

The docs I hav spoken too dont understand what is going on with me and becasue they dont umderstand it they arent researching it to try and help

Due to a raised BMI i had to have the glucose tolerance test whilst pregnant last year
Fasting bloody was 3.8 and the 1 2 hours after drinking that vile concoction was 1.8
No 1 can explain it and i dont know where to turn next

I test a few times a day to try and find a pattern but as yet i havent

CAn anybody help?

I can't say as I know much about too low - might be helpful to others if you could outline a few more details :

for example - what is your diet and eating patterns what is your weight, has it fluctuated, are there any other medications you are on.

I suspect the forum you should be looking in is the one labelled "reactive hypoglycaemia" , though others more knowledgeable than me will be able to comment further.

I have lost stone over the last year with the help of Slimming World - so thats what i follow in terms of eating
I have just had to go wheat free due to an intolerance
Weight is bad at 15st 10, still got lots to lose

I try hard to eat little and often

Have you had any other tests done as yet? I'm asking because someone else I chat to online also has been told their hbA1c is non existent... but when she showed me the result it was <4 which basically means she's running on a lot of lows too. But she also has other abnormal things going in with her blood tests and her doctors are investigating and they're saying she's real sick but they have to find out why. So if you haven't had a full blood count, etc. done... I hope your docs can get to the bottom of it. It's possible you may have reactive hypoglycaemia too, but then you may have something else going on causing that. I hope you get answers soon. I wish you the best. :)

I would ask to see a specialist, it's your health, sod their budget, because that's what it's about. Go back and tell them you are worried even if they aren't.

Hi and welcome!

From the info you have given, I don't really think any of us can do more than ask questions, and make a few suggestions.
You may find reading the Reactive Hypoglycaemia section is interesting
http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/category/reactive-hypoglycemia.70/
but there are other things that could be causing this.

I agree that you need a specialist. Lows in the 1s are brutal. I've only had one of them since I started testing my blood glucose, but it left me feeling ill for a couple of days. And if you have a baby, that must make things so much harder.

Hope you don't mind a few questions?
Are you keeping a food diary? Including all the drinks and snacks? I think it makes spotting what is going on a great deal easier. Especially when combined with a detailed track of your lows.
Are you on any medication for anything at all? And if so, have you checked all the online info about the drug? Sometimes there are side effects that only affect a very small percentage of people.
What tests have been run on you by your doc?
And has your doctor seen evidence that you are hypoing into the 1s? If not, then they need to see it. @Lamont D hypoed while actually in the doctor's surgery, and it finally tipped the doc into taking him seriously.

Hope this helps!

Hi and welcome,
The need to speak to someone who has had experience of dealing with episodes of Hypoglycaemia can only benefit you.
GPs struggle with symptoms that shows something unusual, they are not trained in most metabolic conditions and Hypoglycaemia is one of them.
There are many types of hypoglycaemia and only hospital tests can sort these out, to get them you need a referral to a specialist endocrinologist who has experience with Hypoglycaemia.
I cannot stress enough you need to fight your corner to get a referral. I went for years being ill and not getting the right information and how to start getting better!
I wouldn't want to wish that on anyone, having consistent episodes of Hypoglycaemia is dreadful and unnecessary!
Do you have other intolerance than wheat?
All grains are bad for me!

Until you do get sorted, started finding out how foods affect your body and your blood glucose levels. You might find that other foods especially fruit, dairy (low fat especially), rice, potatoes, pasta amongst others are the main culprits.

Do read our forum, Hypoglycaemia is awful if not controlled, if you have questions please ask, if you need advice, ask!

This forum is wonderful and so knowledgeable about these kind of conditions, we will steer you through it.

Welcome to our forum, @mental_mammy86 .
