Diet Doctor Low Carb Challenge

I'm the same, I hate going to bed hungry, too. I know you don't eat breakfast, so how about having your breakfast eggs before bed? With mayo?

I will see how it goes in the next few days. We ate earlier than usual last night because Mr B had to go out. So maybe a later dinner and the konjac will be enough.

Honestly didn't realise how much veg I eat compared with this DietDoc regime. Until last night's brilliant 5.3 reading 2 hours after eating I would had sworn that my large veg portions (courgette, aubergine, peppers, leek, broccoli, cauli, kind of veg) didn't impact my blood glucose, but will wait and see if this happens every time.

Mind you, given the choice (long term) of this piddling amount of veg, or slightly higher blood glucose after my evening meal, I and my regularity will go for more veg! :D

Today is cabbage for lunch and then just spinach and fish for dinner. I mean, just spinach?!?!?

Mmmmmmm, muesli.... another thing I miss.

That chicken, cream, feta and olive dish was lovely last night. I had it with some cauliflower rice which I fried in chilli and garlic oil with a slab of butter. I made three portions of the chicken dish which were amazingly filling and neither of us finished it all, especially after the salmon at lunch. I'm not calculating calories because I know I'd panic. Note to self: caulirice is a good absorber of fat.

Not great BGs this morning... it was 5.1 when I went to bed last night and woke up to a FBG of 7.5. I've had my kippers for breakfast (very salty) and I'm hoping my BG will go down by the next test instead of going up like it normally does.

Tonight is the meal Mr C is dreading....Stuffed cabbage casserole. :) :) To those who have made it before, which would be best: savoy cabbage, spring greens or white cabbage?
I had the white cabbage. This was the one hubby refused (but I kept back some mince and it became bolognese) but my brother loved it. I steamed the cabbage. Having it next day for a late lunch I was full!

I'm sure you could reduce the amount of spinach (it is a lot) and sub it with another veg that is above ground - maybe courgette?

I like my veg too - I always loved that 'eat a rainbow' idea and I'm missing the interest of different colours on my plate.

Right - white cabbage it is. :) Thanks for the recommendation. Asda delivered two massive white cabbages that should have been green and pointy so it'll be useful to use one of them up.

Its gone up..... 8.6 now. :( This DP is turning in to all morning P (if you see what I mean).

Well, I am slightly relieved it isn't egg intolerance - that would be pretty grim.
But it doesn't help in finding out what it IS.

Day 2 of the walnut trial - 2 walnuts and went to bed on 6.8 , got up to 7.2. Just had time for coffee before heading out.
10.20 and I 'd hit 8.7 (which is better than yesterday ). Had my eggs and at 11.20 still 8.7. Will be back soon so can do the 2 hour check although if it follows yesterday I should be back in the 7s and lower again at 2hrs 15mins/30mins (thank goodness I have loads of testing strips at the moment). I'm going to stick with this as it probably wasn't the best time to start when I wasn't 100%.

@Brunneria I'm relieved it isn't an egg problem, too. I a full English or a lovely soothing plate of bacon and eggs.

@maglil55 It's so irritating isn't it. The book I write my readings in show that the only time I've had consistent low FBGs was when I was regularly fasting AND eating LCMF but I had a strong feeling that the fasting was contributing to my depression which is why I stopped it.

Oh no - its lunchtime - gotta eat MORE food. ;)

2 hrs was 7.1 and still dropping

Just before lunch mine had gone down to 6.1- I think I will test more often tomorrow to see if I can work out when it starts to lower and what - if anything- I have done / can do to bring it forward.

That chicken, feta and cream casserole was quite nice cold. I couldn't face the leftover cauliflower rice though.

I'd love something sweet tasting. I think I'll make myself a sugar free jelly for this evening. I know the DD website is against sweeteners but sugar free jelly has got to be better than a hunk of cake, even if the cake is low carb and lush.

Post lunch I'm 6.7 and still falling. I seem to start falling around 90mins then it really moves downwards after that up to around the 2hr 30 mark. I did have the chilli salmon for lunch and onto the feta chicken for tonight. I had a wee bit spinach with the salmon. I'm adapting now to "eat when you are hungry" "stop when full" so I am not eating as much.
@Brunneria - you can have other veg with it. I asked this question of Diet Doctor before I started and the only proviso was low carb veg so that you don't muck up the 20g or less (and stop when full of course).
@Chook - I have sugar free jellies in the fridge. Doesn't make any difference to me and I add a tiny bit of cream to it.
Hope I can get the trends right before I run out of strips - just got another 100 from the doc but I still have a stockpile from when I wasn't testing as much.

Good news about the other veg. Mr C just sent me a text me to ask about dinner and I told him it was the cabbage dish - he texted me back and said that, for the benefit of his co-workers, could we not have cabbage or spinach more than once a week. The cabbage has had the same effect on him as it has on the dogs (well, I had to use it up somehow and they do like veg) ..... phew

@maglil55 2 hours after lunch and mine was 6.3. Isn't BG strange the way it does its own thing.

I must be lucky, I get 50 strips a week prescribed for me. I only had to argue about it once after I had two low Hba1c tests quite close together. I got a letter telling me the strips would be discontinued because of the good test results - so I took my food diary and BG book down with me to the doctor and ate a large Mars Bar about 30 mins before my appointment. While in with the doctor I explained what I had done and why, then tested my BG which was up to 18. It was a hard way for me to prove my point but at least I still get the strips.

What was weird was the way my body reacted to the Mars Bar - it tasted revoltingly sweet and I could barely keep my eyes open I was so tired. Horrible.

Interesting! Mr C (after all the fuss and yuck noises) enjoyed the stuffed cabbage dish and I didn't like it at all. I ate about a quarter of a portion. I think it was mainly because I was just not at all hungry.

I understand the reasoning behind 'only eat when you're hungry' but I'm never hungry on this Challenge and Mr C was starving. What do you do? Eat with your other halves or wait till you're hungry?

We could do some challenges in the forum. There's plenty of low carb know how here. Recipe challenge? Carbs challenge? Weight target challenge? Motivation challenge? Just an idea :angelic::angelic::angelic:

That salmon is gorgeous! Looking forward to it cold, tomorrow. :) not sure i want the spinach again though. I think we'll have a nice big salad with it instead.

I'm loving the flavour combos. The tomato and cream sauce yesterday, the chilli, parmesan and sour cream today. Delish!

It is indeed - it was my lunch today with the feta chicken to follow at dinner. There was next to no carbs in the day until dinner. Hubby asked "what's in the steamer?" And rapidly added - stupid question (got a surprise it wasn't cabbage though)

I would change your lunch if you didn't like the Crackslaw. The day I had it for lunch it was scheduled to be herby chicken but that was the night the boys were staying and I never got there. Wad just as glad as I was not hungry at all after Crackslaw for lunch. I think I settled on a couple of walnuts and Lidl's German sausage.

I'm going to have an avocado for lunch tomorrow to try and get some appetite back. There is a low carb sort of porridge (no oats) on the DD breakfasts which I have got the ingredients for so I might give that a try.

The rest of the crack slaw is in the freezer for when Mr C starts on the other shift. It's not for me - he really liked it. :)
