Novorapid overdose

Thank you. I think therefore that the 60 mls of lucozade I drank there and then would have been a fast hit and what i needed was a slower hit. I'll test again now and then try and eat a bit of cereal (I'm quite full from dinner) and then doze and get hubbie to stay awake and nudge me for testing. This is probably a stupid question but will it be really obvious if I'm having a hypo? I'm not even 100% sure of the symptoms. Thank you for all your help

Yes, that would have been a fast acting hit. You didn't do anything wrong drinking it though and it was a sensible precaution. 60ml would only be approx 10g carbs, I think, so not a large amount. You'll need more carbs and something like cereal is a good idea, or toast, biscuits, etc.

As I said at the bottom of the first page, you need to 'feed' that extra insulin so it doesn't push your blood sugar too low.

You will probably figure out what it is - we all have different symptoms, so couldn't say for sure what yours will be but could include any of :
feeling hungry.
sweating.
dizziness.
tiredness (fatigue)
blurred vision.
trembling or shakiness.
going pale.
fast pulse or palpitations.

@staceface . Unfortunately no one can say how an hypo would affect you. They vary so much for all of us.
Usual signs though are......
Sweating
Blurred or wobbly vision
Tingling mouth or lips
Intense hunger
Confusion inability to problem solve or make a decision
Irritability
The only way to truly know is to keep testing.
I think a lot of us have done what you have, it's annoying, and we just have to work through it.

Thank you. My blood sugar is steady for the last 30 mins at 5.3 and I have taken your advice and have had a small bowl of granola. I will do my best to stay awake for a few more hours. Thank you and all the other posters so much for all of your help and support - it is very much appreciated!!!! Thank you!! AND baby brain or not I will NOT mix up my pens again!!!!

Get your husband to set his alarm. Too, I case he dozes.. Yep, it happens!

Hypos; from personal experience. Like being "stoned". I'm pretty passive but some get argumentative & agressive..? (Warn your Hubby.)
Blurred vision, light sensitive, colour blind, dancing lights in lower field of vision.. Like walking into a room & forgetting why.. That's just the early symptoms.. Cold sweat, more confusion.. You may feel the need at this point to consume the world's carb contents.....? The mind might "race".. Are you a "thinker?" The "challenge" of throwing the bed sheets off to sort a hypo could be like "astrophysics"? That is sometimes how the mind works....?

Not trying to scare you. Just giving some pointers!

Let us know how you are tomorrow after you've got some sleep.

And congratulations on your pregnancy :)

Morning @staceface - just wanted to check you are ok this morning and managed to avoid going low ?

That is an emergency! You must call 999 and be ready to eat rapid carbs such as sugar. 1 IU of insulin usually lowers 2.0 mmol/l and metabolises 15 grams of carbs hence 8 x 15 = 120 grams of carbs. You need to closely monitor your BG before taking the carbs, insulin should peak 90-150 minutes after injection.

Everyone's insulin to carbs ratio varies - especially in pregnancy.

Hi everyone. Thanks so much for checking in with me. Sorry I never posted sooner. Your advice was great and I managed to avoid going low after eating cereal and staying up and monitoring regularly. Thank you all for your help and support. I definitely needed it!!

Thank you for your response. Thankfully I managed to avoid going low by drinking some lucozade with a meal of brown rice and meat and then eating some cereal a few hours later.
