Medtronic 640g pump

hi. im moving onto a Medtronic 640g pump next week does anyone have any advice or hints and tips as to things I will neeed to know when I get the pump for the first time? is it a big pump or quite compact? any advice and help appreciated.

Hi @Djdiabetic I'm on a 640g, I love mine, it's been brilliant so far, compact, sits in a belt around my waist so easy and comfortable to wear. Look up some youtube vids on it to see how people use the system and to get familiar with the look/feel of it. Good luck, does take some adjustments but worth the results :)
 
thanks for your advice @Juicyj what are enlite sensors? and can these be used with the Medtronic 640g?

im assuming the sensors are for cgm?
 
Hi @Djdiabetic Yes the enlite sensors which when combined with the Guardian Link Transmitter become the CGM element, unfortunately this isn't included with the 640g, however you can set up a subscription directly with Medtronic if you are planning to self fund these.

Any idea the cost of these? I'm currently on the freestyle libre at the minute is it comparable with the libre?
 
Yeah I understand exactly where you are coming from, i've considered it in the past but decided the cost was too high so I tend to use a libre sensor every so often to monitor patterns instead. The system is very useful as it's linked direct to your pump and will alert you if you're going high/low so enabling you to take action quickly, personally I would prefer to opt in for this, however it's still out of my budget sadly :banghead:
 
It can both predict and prevent hypos without user intervention, it is by far the best use of technoloy for diabetes on the planet.

(Begin rant)Yes, here in Australia the government have made it free for 21 and under! Like diabetes disappears at 21. Which I find unbelievable because teenagers are the group most likely to not use it ( I've had this cursed condition since I was 4 ) and after 40 years I feel it's adults that would benefit more from CGM. For all ages though we are such a small population that even if it was subsidised to half it becomes quite affordable. (End rant)
