People could phone the freedom of information dept at their hospitals or do it directly online or phone and speak to the FOI Officer at their CCG offices and ask for information to be sent to them regarding the Libre now being available as of Nov on NHS. You can ask to be included in all information that will be made available in next 3 months.

I'm glad for others, but personally find the Libre too difficult to use. Just me I know. However, shouldn't they have sorted the glue and/or fixing issues before marketing it and stressing out their consumers?

As with a lot of products different glyes and dressings affect different people.
Ie on 1st mastectomy I was stitched and glued and ok. 2nd one byna different surgeon I was stitched and dressed... allergic to dressing, yet ok with cgm sticky stuff.
And fine with libre glue too. However I always wore a tubigrip over it.

If the majority have no problem they cannot change for the minority.

I'm the minority for lots of things like being intolerant to pump cannulas.. majority of users are ok, I'm not so got to use some other method..

Yes, you're right. I got too irritated with trying Libre, but I know lots of people get on well with it, and all power to them.

Ha, I end up getting irritated with my stupid body!!-lol....

Even had a minor op 10 days ago. Knew I should have asked for antibiotics but thought, "naah, its only a 4cm cut. Didnt seem to heal that well... but Monday my puppy dog accidentally caught the cut.. and drew blood. Had to get antibiotics and in just 24hours the scar has healed magically better than in 10days previous. My stupud body again!!

I'm fortunate with medtronic guardian connect gluey plasters though, so am grateful that I can wear some dressings!!

Think its nicer to be able to blame gadgers than our bodies...:)!!

Its down to every CCG to buy as they think and to set their own budgets to purchase etc.. its not a National Health Service... its a postcode lottery depending upon which CCG you live in, not even the hospital that you go to.
That's not quite how pricing works. In the past it worked that way, but pricing is now referred through the NHS BSA. In this case, the NHS BSA has set the price with Abbott at £35 and that is the price it will go on the Drug Tariff at. The approach that's been taken is different from that previously used.

Access is driven by CCG approval to spend the money, and for that specialists have to apply to the various formularies to get them on the list. A long winded committee based process. I know South East London have written a care pathway that they needed the final cost information to submit, so I'm asking them to share that with the ABCD group and Partha so there is a consistent approach to delivery across the UK.

I was looking seriously at getting the Libre a few months ago but for the time being I put this on hold due to some unexpected financial reasons.

Without knowing my CCGs guidelines etc and completely in theory do you think it would help my case to getting a Libre on the NHS if I trial one first before November to show how much I would benefit?

At this stage, with no CCG guidance in place, we've no way of answering that one.

Just spoken to my Diabetic Specialist Nurse for my area and she went and checked with her higher powers. Libre will NOT be available in Scotland, apparently this announcement relates to England only.

Just found out the other day that DAFNE has been stopped in Aberdeen due to lack of funding also.... *sigh*

Thought it was the whole of the UK?

The original link on the thread states 'across the United Kingdom'

DSN adamant NHS Scotland not issuing them, she went and checked and called me back. I have Diabetic Clinic on 27th September, gonna ruffle a few feathers there as I am having major issues with my GP in Aberdeen "removing" essential supplies from my repeat prescription also! I will post how I get on re: Libre.

I have been using this system for over 18 months now and my control has never been better. However, my local CCG in Northumberland have already stated that they will not be funding this system for anyone until at least April next year. I have already written to my local M.P. to protest about this decision which is obviously been done on cost grounds and is I feel, discriminately against diabetics.

Great news.
Many people seem to think flashing the Libre is just a replacement for finger pricking. Not only is there the issue of needing finger pricks for driving, there is also the additional information that is available from the Libre like trend arrows and graphs of the last 8 hours (which can add up to 24x7 if you scan often enough).
I hope there will be training on how to get the most out of the Libre rather than just handing them out and just assuming ot can be used in exactly the same way as a finger prick. That would be such a waste of money.

Why do people still seem to think that blood testing before driving is a legal requirement. It is not, it is only advisory, sensible advice of course but it is not a legal requirement.

Re the Freestyle Libra system being available on the NHS, my guess is that most of the local Health Authorities will not provide it on cost grounds, I fear we are going to have to fight to get this for all diabetics on the NHS. Does anyone know what the cost of the finger prick test strips are ? I think that each container only has 25 strips. I test my blood at least 10 times a day using the Freestyle so on that basis I would need at least five boxes of test strips a month. I bet that would cost more than two Libra sensors.

50 strips per pot/box normally, NICE say an average of 6-10 strips per day is sufficient for most T1Ds, I think I read somewhere averare price is about £12 a pop (could be a bit more, @tim2000s would know!) - so 4 boxes/pots a month is about £48, 5 would be £60. The NHS buy libres at £35 a sensor, so just over the average cost of a high end strip user per month..........how convenient!?

I just got off the phone to DSN for Northumberland and was basically told that it will definitely not be available in my area from November. They didn't say when it would but was told that 'it is a long way off'.

I've asked them to keep me updated but things don't look all that promising.
