I'm struggling with my diet

I'm not on insulin, fortunately. HBA1CMy was 55 last count and am v happy about that. I only changed to sustained release metformin early this yr. have to say it's made a big difference to my ups and downs during the day, much more stable.

Another point is exercise that makes a difference. Just noticed my profile says insulin dependent, that's a mistake.
I checked my profile page, which lists my tablets so don't understand, can't find a way to change that.

ah ok. I read the insulin dependent part :) many of us have been able to get down to non diabetic levels following the dietary recommendations on here, following the low carb program and dietdoctor.com -
Have a read round:) and welcome .

look at treatment type which is a different slot than where you put in medications

Hello @Elvbro and welcome

Tonight I had a slice of belly pork with kale and leeks fried in butter with poached eggs.

Have you looked at the what have you eaten thread, always worth a read. X

I've read it, thanks. That's where I got the 25% from.

:)

I must admit I don't measure my carb by plate loads, though I guess the good green stuff can be quite bulky anyway :) thinking about it - my spinach can often look way more than 25% of the plate, even if I do tend to limit my total carb intake by grams to less than 30g.
either way its all good,..

I have been T2 for about 15 years now and has always have issues with what to eat especially dinner.
My dinner normally pasta, yam, green banana, potatoes, dumplings, soup, fish, chicken and on rare occasions red meat. As you can see most of the above are either classed as bad or very bad carbs.
What do you people normally have for dinner?
My BS range from 7.2 to 12. And I need to reduce it.

Thanks

Tonight I had a fairly typical (for me ) meal
Salad of watercress, mini peppers, cucumber, radishes, celery, cherry tomatoes, avocado, mixed seeds and lemon juice with Tzatziki and 1 slice Hi lo bread ( lower carb version of bread) with sugar free organic peanut butter

Low carb is certainly the dietary path to follow but low carb is a broad church and different levels will suit different people at different times and for different reasons

Having seen what it does to me going up to around 200 carbs, I think I'm definitely one of those needing low levels. but then again my start point was a horrendous 90 hba1c. (10.3%)

In reality I wish we could stop calling it LCHF anyway , I prefer to think of it as real foods to taste, no processed, sugar, wheat banished with an emphasis on the green veggies in preference to other kinds . I doubt it matters too much which particular emphasis one has on actual real foods.

I had a small salmon steak with mixed veg of broccoli, onion and red pepper - all cooked in about 10g of butter.

Low carb starts at under 100g carbs.

Low carb starts at under 100g carbs.

yes I am aware of that , my thread on the subject charts what happens to me from about 40 through to 200 where the 200 was the basis for a glucose tolerance test . For me personally I try to stick to under 30 g, don't worry too much if that is 40 through lot of healthy vegetables and try to keep blow outs to no more than about 90 no more than once very couple of weeks.

That seems to work fine for me- though its not getting me any thinner!

The simplest answer is anything I like . . . . . . . minus processed foods, potato, rice, pasta, bread so by inference that's going to include biscuits, cakes, chocolate.

I do eat a lot of vegetables, probably 10 different vegetables a day and only the ones grown above ground. Sometimes I have a treat, like a piece of toast or a normal yoghurt with more than 4 gms carb per 100 gms (Onken 0% fat is 3.1 gms per 100 gms) or I might eat the raisins in the packet of mixed fruit and nut. Not always a good idea, the rise in BG is very quick.

Type 2 on no diabetes meds. I too had lasagne last night with a light salad. It was home-made vegetarian, with thin slices of aubergine instead of lasagne sheets. Followed by a few bites of brie. I've recently used a low-carb diet and cut out almost all potatoes, pasta, rice and bread. Without being obsessive about it I've lost one stone over three months. Never hungry and feeling virtuous!

Looks like I have to cut out 80% of the food I love to eat. Seems like steamed fish and veg for the rest of my life.
Has anyone have some good breakfast ideas as I'm looking to cut our carbs like bread etc?

German Pork Knuckles works well for me...5.2 mmol post meal.

I ususally have chicken or fish and try to cut the carbs to a minimal amount filling the plate with 2/3 cooked veg or salads.
