Anyway it will only make you sick! K

Hi Sobo82
Your doing great with your BG levels keep it up says She,!!

Thank you I must admit I’m feeling pretty good about them for say I’m a newbie I can only thank you lot for the information I read in the threads and the knowledge I’ve gathered not had much help from anywhere else I’m surprised how you just leave hospital with your bag of insulin and needles and a phone number for diabetes nurse considering it’s a life changing diagnosis no wonder people have bad control for many years
i do have my first appointment with the consultant on Monday which i am greatful for things like that are in place for us and I believe I’ll be seeing the opticians and foot clinic which is good care
I’m just glad i know how to look after myself and research things and most of all found this thread
Thanks again everyone

Hi @Sobo82
I know what you say is so true because it happened to my grandson when he was 18 he was rushed into hospital and diagnosed type1 diabetic within a few days he was sent home with a few leaflets and an appointment. He had no help and thought his life was over, where is the NHS when people need help. I know they are overstretched but come on diabetes is a life changing thing to cope with without help. K

Does she understand that her decision is making you unwell? When my mum began her crazy dementia journey she flatly refused to accept any help (still does, but now she has to have it). I was spending hours travelling and looking after her. It can make you very ill. In the end I just couldn't do it anymore.

Take care of yourself. Carer burnout is very common but really hard to see in yourself. Do you have help?
Thanks Kentoldlady for your kind and understanding words. They really helped. My hubby is very supportive but there is no-one else to help. Fortunately I only live 2-3 miles from mum but am spending more and more time everyday seeing to her needs. She does seem to be concerned about my health problems at times and feels unhappy that she needs us to do so much for her but that is over ridden by her fear of seeking help from elsewhere so I cannot access any support. Thanks again. :)

I read lots of what people say about their initial diagnosis with almost shock. I recall my first appointment post diagnosis the go was drawing graphs showing me various reasons.he kept asking if I understood the graphs ...I eventually told him I was a maths teacher -it was fun watching the graphs I asked if he wanted me to mark them afterwards !! Sorry I digress, on initial diagnosis I had an excellent explanation from my go I was set up with an appointment with the diabetic team at the hospital and given a series of appointments with the nurse practitioner. -although I still feel that my previous go misses my diagnosis for at least 5 years.my current gps and dn are brilliant too I’m incredibly lucky

It's a very successful surgery but has usual not for me though I'm fine now but had problems after surgery went on until recently nearly three years. The variofocals are great glasses when you get used to them, wear them continually until you forget you have them, just remember point your head in direction of what you are looking at and not by lowering your eyes at what your looking at.
You're going to get the hang of it quickly this way and you'll be doing it without thinking soon. K
@Kentoldlady1
How are you getting on today with the variofocals hope you have had a better day with them! Good luck K

Morning folks. Awoke at 6. 45am feeling decidedly grotty-- shaky, nauseous, sweaty, thirsty, calf cramps etc. Tested BS expecting either hypo or hyper levels and was 6.8. Retested after few minutes, different finger, and was 7.2. Pretty good levels for me. It's a mystery! Enjoy your Friday one and all. :)

Hi @dogslife,

I hope you are feeling better. Caring for a parent can be very, very stressful -- so please take care of yourself.

Actually, I wouldn't rule out low blood sugars (or at least lower than usual) as the reason for the shakiness, nausea and sweat . By the time, we wake up the liver has usually kicked in and released some glucose to bring blood sugar levels up. So, unless we monitor blood sugars over night, we usually miss it. Anyway -- just a thought.

Thanks for your thoughts, ziggy_w. Perhaps you are right. I think I have just temporarily reached exhaustion point. I'm a tough cookie so will bounce back! Thanks again.:)
