struggling big time

Hey Ally1, just wanted to send you a hug and good thoughts for your appointment with the psych....My dear friend has a daughter who has bipolar and it seems that she can tell when her daughter is going to start a rough patch....so maybe like Daisyduck has suggested you could start writing some thoughts down and maybe a pattern will begin to emerge for you that shows you when a change is about to happen and you can then be better able to show the GP or DN what is going on....just a thought. Maybe right now you need to see your psych a bit more often too. More importantly, know that you are deeply cared for by the members of this Forum and that you are an inspiration to many of us as you are strong and a fighter, both with bipolar and diabetes. We are rooting for you! Blessings/L

I Don, t get free testing strips and have plenty.
To be honest, I am only doing my first one when I get up because I am on a self destruct and know my levels are high. If I test and see how high they are, then that will make me worse.
I do see my psych on Wednesday and do feel my bipolar is not controlled at the moment. So I will see how that appointment goes, then if necessary try and get to see my gp
Let us know how you get on. Any coping techniques been given to you in the past for difficult days for the bipolar hun?
I hope Tuesday flies by for you.
You know where I am if you want to just get anything out to make you feel better. I don't know if that's any help but am an ear, in between kids. Maybe others will keep you company on this thread or PMs too?
Difficult days are always better shared.

Ally is there something we can do more which can help you additionally? I cannot promise but please ask and I for one will try and help as much as I can.

Maybe good listeners til Wednesday appointment is ideal? Remember to image your GP naked is apparently a good ice breaker....as long as we don't tell them, eh?

I find I'm putting a lot on my fbgs being good and perfect, long term but I dont do it month in and month out. You do. I know when you have 7s or 8s they are steady. Have you been eating naughty foods or has something changed in your diet plan?

Less exercise for me and not less food doesn't benefit my bgs.
You know you have cracked no smoking spectacularly. I know some get hungrier after giving up and some meds work against us.
Is it the worrying about neuropathy may get worse on 10s which are triggering your mood?
Take heart hun a few higher bgs don't cause damage, its long term.
Now.
Can you do any swimming or walking to keep these raising bgs just under the 7.8mmol/l mark. Anything will help.

I've bought my rubber socks for a walk into the bigger pool in our area. I'm going to try next weekend to at least get in and out of pool safely and do some stretches. Different painkillers were needed first but I'm looking like a druggy with black eye marks under my eyes and have periods of exhaustion. However, this won't stop me. I'm determined to keep moving and have warmer weather to look forward to, too. I won't let my weight kill me!

Like I mentioned, I am seeing my psych on Wednesday.
I have just called my surgery, I gave a brief chat on what's wrong and said I felt I needed some sort of help either with my gp or a dn. Gp would have been prefer but you only get 10 minutes which I feel won,t be long enough. Then also have to call on the day for an appointment, most times when I do get through, all appts have gone. I insisted to see the DN. After alot of smallish arguing, got an appt with a dn on the 7th February.
Depending what the psych says on this Wednesday, and if the DN in, t required then that appt can easily be cancelled.
Ally still go and see dn. You need to make them aware of your strife with the diabetes and how much it is affecting your life. Keep telling dn your biggest concern is more complications on 10s. Seek her/his advice. You need a diabetes supporter whose available to you.

I really feel for you right now, I am struggling to control sugar levels, so I am there with you, not really managed to get back on track since Christmas.
I am considering purchasing a Dawn Simulator Alarm Clock, I always suffer some depression when we get less day light - so I am hoping this might help, will have to be after payday as no money right now.
The testing sometimes just confirms what you know already and makes you feel worse which compounds the situation.
I am sorry not to have any suggestions on how to get out of the situation but wanted you to know you are by no means on your own and it helps me to know I am not the only one - I would say it is more about the time of year and lack of daylight that is having an adverse impact.
Roll on the brighter days.
I posted because there are others here with some kind of mental illness and are afraid to say because incase they feel ashamed to be ill. I have always been open about having bipolar. There's no shame x

Sending hugs @ally1 . My aunt had bipolar and I know how badly it can affect you. Also the after Xmas and new year period can make it worse. Hope your psyche can help on Wednesday.
Just a thought. I'm no therapist but this has helped me get through a dreadful year..... I bought a nice notebook and every day being completely honest with myself, wrote down how I felt.. It seems to help to get it off your mind and on to paper... for my eyes only ;)
Ok, for example, you're about to eat that cream cake .. write how it makes you feel and why you want to do it. no recriminations, nobody else sees this. Hopefully it will give you an insight and help a little x
That's a good idea. Will try that

I have always hesitated to post on your threads @ally1 because I know nothing about bipolar.
I do read your posts, and am always inspired by your strength and tenacity.
I hope you get the help you need on Wednesday
Thank you.
Alot of people that Don, t know much about mantal illness are often afraid to say anything incase they a fend us. I am so open about my bipolar. X

You have made me smile about imagining my gp naked, well not my gp but I could with my psych, he is Indian, would say around 40ish, he has such a lovely smile and he actually cares for his patients.
Gp is in a different legal. Grumpy middle age man lol
I am so over whelmed how many people have replied and I am so grateful x

Yes I will still see the DN x

Well done! its not easy to push for an appointment when you are feeling down. Hopefully the low mood and sugar fluctuations are linked and will get sorted together. Fluctuations in glucose are known to affect mood. Do keep posting.

Hi @ally1 really feel for you. I’m a carer of two sons both of whom developed bi-polar with a severe psychotic episode at the age of 15. Our eldest is also autistic and has epilepsy so still struggles and needs lots of care. Our youngest has had lots of psychiatric help and is doing better. So I’ve lots of experience of bipolar and know just how devastating and life changing it can be. I also know as someone who has suffered severe reactive depression because of the caring demands just how badly severe mental health problems impact on blood sugars. I am certain that years of caring, stress and depression led to me developing insulin resistance and then diabetes so am sure that bipolar is at the heart of things. Sure diet makes it worse but it’s really important to get your mental health cared for - so really pleased you’ve got a psych appointment. Are you having any psychological support at all - seeing someone to discuss things can be helpful, as can strategies like stress management/ mindfulness if nothing else if they can help you get better sleep it will help you to feel a bit better. Try not to worry too much about your bgs they will lower if you can level out your mental health issue. Maybe ask if you could get additional psych help and support to get through this difficult patch and try to remember that even when the clouds are dark the blue sky is always there hiding behind the clouds. Big hug coming your way do take care it’s a complex illness to live with

Some more hugs coming your way! I'll just spend some time hoping things will get better for you shortly and I'll keep a look out for your posts. I hope it helps a little. I'm very impressed by what you've achieved in the past, both with handling your bipolar and with your diabetes. I'm looking forward to your posts when you start feeling better and I'm here with the rest of us to listen as long as you're willing to write about the difficulties you encounter in life. (extra bonus-hug for luck inserted here)

I will ask no worries now as I am more able to speak up for myself. X

My low mood is more to do with my bipolar but additionally does impact on me with the higher readings

Well my psych realised back in September that I was struggling and he got me a cpn short term. I saw her last October, not heard a word from her since. I have left no end of messages and never got a reply. I will mention this to the psych on wednesday
