Hi to everyone on the forum

This is my first post on the Diabetes UK Forum. I’m connected with a few people from here but on my LinkedIn Profile. I’m not just a patient but a Developer, Advocate also.
As I’m a Wheelchair Bound, Partial Amputee with a Complex Medical History Diabetes was a real blow. Only problem with it was finger pricks ( impossible with one hand ) so I rely on care provider.
That’s a brief description. So I was told about the forum and joined to share experiences, hints and knowledge.
Wishing you all the best in health, happiness, success for 2018 onwards.

Hi Phil
Welcome to our friendly, inspiring and informative little corner of the internet.

Hi, Phil, welcome aboard!

Re the testing, most lancing devices come with an attachment which allows lancing the arm instead of finger for a sample, so might be worth looking into that.

Hi Scott. Thanks for your reply.
From my other healthcare issues unfortunately prevents this.
As I’m a developer with electronics background I used the Nightscout, XDrip and reversed engineering to get a Dexcom G4 Platinum CGM to transmit the information. The sensors extended to 18-24 days depending on how well they were positioned. Please note that this was experimenting and not in line with the use guide for CGM use ! Always test your Glucose Levels with approved devices.
The same I used Medtronic Guardian CGM . Costs are the biggest problem as most CCG in the UK won’t fund Type 2 and even Type 1 diabetics have the same difficulty.
At some point I will post my LinkedIn Profile link as the information for Diabetes Sufferers is interesting. Especially using Thermal Imaging to detect blood flow to extremities that effect so many.

Best wishes

Phil

I'm a huge fan of xDrip+, @ElpisGenesisUK .

I've got a transmitter from Ambrosia Systems sitting on top of my libre sensor, which sends readings every 5 mins to xdrip.

Full on cgm for 100 quid! Turns libre from a Ford Escort into a Ferrari!

I read all the, "personal research project, not for medical use" disclaimers with xdrip but after a couple of weeks of testing against bg tests, I reckoned it was tight enough, and have been ok bolusing with it.

We've been pretty lucky in my area: NHS Lothian has recently decided to put all T1s on prescription for libre if they want it. Not looking so good for T2s though. The minutes of formulary meetings suggest that others might benefit, by which I think they mean T2s on insulin.
