Ye gods - dry wheetabix? Who thought that one up?
my grandmother used to make one too which was absolutely amazing.. I think she put lard and butter in it as well as soaking the stale bread in water for day.. or something like that. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately for me) the recipe died with her. Before my mother went crazy she used to make bread pudding, this is not to be confused with bread and butter pudding. This was made from soaked stale bread, currants and sultanas, spices all mixed in. Then cooked in the oven till it was a nice brown colour.
Garbo's wedding cake she called it when it was cold and cut in slices, never could get therrecipe though.

She soaked it about that long as well, I do not know what the spices were though as that made the nice taste to it.I think she put lard and butter in it as well as soaking the stale bread in water for day.. or something like that.
We have tried a lot of recipes and they are no where near the stuff she made.
Your poor teeth.I used to love mashed banana sandwiches with a generous sprinkling of sugar when I was a kid!
Your poor teeth.

Yuck! Marmite. I'm gagging just thinking of it.Thick white bread, spread with butter and marmite and then deep fried. Our school cook’s speciality!
I’ll get my coat...
many people spend ages trying to find low carb bread (which must surely be an oxymoron).
Sub standard alternatives for high carb food are the last thing I can be bothered thinking about.
I have often wondered why we see so many threads about bread? ... I'm interested to have your thoughts.
Well shall we say this hasn't gone quite the way I had hoped... still so long as everyone is having fun who cares? Are you pleased with yourself? Did you think things through?
When I was a kid, a treat was buttered toast with lashings of marmite and a variety of different fruits - mashed banana ( no sugar), grapes, melon or apple slicesI used to love mashed banana sandwiches with a generous sprinkling of sugar when I was a kid!
