Helicobacter pylori

Lorna Tinker

Active Member
I am type 2 db taking tablets and insulin. On the 13th April 2018 after having an endoscope I was diagnosed with H pylori. This is a bacteria that lives in the lining of your stomach. It causes vomiting, wind, loose bowels. I was put on two different antibiotics and a reflux tablet. I have finished the tablets but I am still being sick and have no appetite. I am finding it hard to keep my sugar levels in check. Has any one else gone through a similar thing.

@Lorna Tinker i had this a few years ago then it was three weeks of antibiotics I was fine after this, but I had also Gastro Esophogeal Reflux disease which caused acid reflux sickness after eating I eventually had surgery for GERD has it's called about 8/9 years ago I've been absolutely fine since and can now eat anything. Perhaps you should look further into what is still causing your problem,I'm not suggesting it's GERD but if it is H Pylori you should not be feeling has you do now.! K

Hi, yeah, I had the anti biotic, but I did not have the vomiting. But I would projectile vomit if I had any dairy especially butter or cream. I have a high intolerance to dairy.
It's almost like I am allergic to dairy, but I'm not.
Could it be something similar?

Unfortunately, about the same time, I was having symptoms, which lead to a misdiagnosis of T2. Not to say that is happening to you, but those symptoms led to my eventual diagnosis of reactive hypoglycaemia. It can be caused by heliocobacter pylori, I have read this in a few papers. Indeed it is mentioned on Wikipedia on the RH page.

Since the antibiotics and the diagnosis of RH, my stomach which also had a hiatus hernia, has been great. I eat a very low carb diet, refraining from dairy, complex carbs, including wheat, starchy vegetables such as potatoes, oats, pasta, pastries and so on.
This has improved my health so much.

Your blood glucose levels are all over the place?
Well only diet can solve this, and after nearly two decades later, very low carb is the only way, I know, of controlling my condition, my diet, my health.

I would ask your GP, specialist (if you have one) to give you the tests.

What do you regularly eat? Do you keep a food diary?

What is your fasting levels (first thing before breakfast) or fasting Hba1c levels?

Hope this helps.

Thank your for your reply I have an appointment this week with the doctor. I am taking tablets to stop me being sick but it does not take the feeling away. I burp constantly but do not get acid reflux. I feel as tho something is in the back of my throat and I can not clear it. It is really getting me down now.

Sorry to hear that,
I would hazard a guess that it's not the heliocobacter pylori.
Burping, hiccups and the like are from your epiglottis to your stomach acidity.
I had terrible burps from my hiatus hernia.
Maybe Ear, nose, throat department should have a look!

Thank you Lamont for your reply. I have been on a low carb diet for a few months now. I do not eat a lot of dairy products. I have not had a problem with dairy products in the past. I will be seeing the doctor this week. Hopefully I can get some answers.

Hi, Lorna.

Do you know your last Hba1c?

I would ask for an appt to be made for you to see a gastroenterologist. It could be up to 18 weeks for an appointment.. unless paying privately £250 and getting referred back to NHS for the tests.

A sibo test can test for allergies to somethings like lactose etc.. so may be worth while asking officially for this to be done.

I take it that your stomach showed no signs of gastritis or ukcers? They do normally tell you at the time if you have anything like this.

GP may suggest PPI's as a starting point... but avoiding all tomato products , onions and garlic in anything also works... but onion is in a lot of things... and even onion powder. I cannot take PPI's so I do the avoidance of foods instead.

My gastro was suprised that I didnt have hpylori but thought it was because I take oil of oregano supplement everyday. Apparently it acts really well naturally as a type of antiseptic and keeps hpylori at bay.....
However it shouldnt be taken if anybody has blood thinners etc... and always needs to be checked out to see if safe with meds that others take.

Best to see GP but I would be asking for a gastro appointnent..

Flatulence or wind can be caused by a gastric problem. I had a real problem until treated for Heliobacter Pylori. The GP can organise a breath test or blood test etc to detect if it is still present. Sometimes the usual treatment with antibiotics fails to wipe it out. Your GP should check this possibility. My own wind problems returned within weeks because I was next put on an ACE inhibitor to lower my blood pressure and this then caused a gastric ulcer after about a year. The extreme amount of wind did make me vomit a couple of times when I leaned forward cleaning my teeth. Anything which makes it difficult to eat normally / reduces your appetite may have an effect on your BS readings.

Make sure your doctor takes you seriously.. I had to switch to a different surgery before I could get anyone to listen !!!

Hi all just spoken to a doctor from my surgery and got an appointment to see my usual doctor tomorrow morning. When I visited my doctor a week ago she told me they do not retest anyone who has H pylori. She quoted that the stool sample will always come back infected once you have had the H pylori. The only way to tell is to have another endoscope. I really do not want to go back on antibiotics I was on them for a week 2800 mg a day. They made me feel so bad.

I'm wondering if bariatric surgery patients who end up with RH may have had that condition undiagnosed or treated. We get an endoscopy now to treat it if it's present before the op.

Best to know though. Then able to get rid of it for good.

It is probable!

I am aware that changing the biotic make up of your stomach can affect your liver, kidney and more importantly your pancreatic function.

But don't ask me why!

Hi JMK I went to the doctors this morning. She is a good doctor and I have faith in her. She says that I still have the inflammation my stomach and told me to increase my ppi to take two a day. She also gave me something for anxiety as you can imagine I am getting quite stressed out with all this. She also gave me more anti sickness pills and drinks to help me put weight on. I have got to go back next week.
