I've been trying to lose weight but have plateaued and now have lost interest. I know it's critical for reversing / holding back T2 but am a bit stumped. Low carbs, 1500kcals, weight training, circuit training, cardio, 3L of water it's all a bit aaarrrggghhh. Help!

The best exercise is one you enjoy.
If you do not enjoy it, you will not keep it up.
It may be cycling, walking, running, swimming, dancing, climbing, skiing, gardening, ...
You may enjoy exercise for exercise or you may enjoy helping others whilst exercising (e.g. voluntary land clearing).
You may enjoy team sports to socialise. You may enjoy setting targets. You may enjoy ....
Try anything you think you fancy ... your favourite exercise may be more than one.

Sorry but you can't outrun a bad diet however much you try for long term success.
How many carbs per day are you having?

Any exercise as long as not stressing you into liver dumping or muscle dumping. Once dumping occurs it has defeated the object. To reduce bgs.

How long have you been suck at the same weight? I found that happened to me and then the weight loss started again but in the meantime my body measurements were changing. The best exercise regime is one that you can sustain over the long term, so it has to be enjoyable and will probably involve a change of lifestyle as great as the change of diet. Trying to tackle everything at once and getting frustrated with yourself is not helpful, try to be a little patient. If you stick with it the weight will start to come off again.

Hi @MonkstonDave ,

Have you been recently diagnosed diabetic? What meds have been prescribed (or not.) if so...?

Any excersise is good getting on a bicycle is both practical cheap transport & a good old way to exercise..! Even if it's just to & from place of work.... :)

No idea.... but i guess too many lol
You said 1500 kcal. That's pretty close to 6300 kJ. Whether or not it is too much will depend on factors such as your body weight, natural metabolism and physical activity. Bear in mind that exercise has only a modicum of effect on weight. Mostly, it is down to what you stick in your cake hole.

I would say for a man, that that is not enough calories and your body has stopped losing weight to protect itself.
Husband, although not diabetic, is losing weight at the moment purely by logging his calories and exercises into an app and working on a daily/weekly deficit. He just walks a 5 mile route whilst birding 3 times a week. Lost 9lb in 6 weeks. Has another 7lbs to go.

I would hazard a guess that is probably correct... its not necessarily a simple matter of the amount of calories you eat but where those calories come from in terms of macronutrients. Limiting calories can have a negative impact on metabolic rates which can impede weight loss. I would suggest starting some kind of food diary and monitoring your fat, protein, carb intake keeping the later to an absolute minimum. That was my method for significant weight loss and of course will also help to lower your blood sugar significantly too.

Thanks, low carbs it is then!

I completely understand the exercise boredom.
Tried so many different things over the years, including swimming, gym, yoga, kettlebells, a few dreadful exercise videos, and so on. But as @helensaramay says, unless you enjoy it you won't keep it up.

Of course there are lots of different ways of enjoying. Some people enjoy the burn, or the glow, or the high. Not me. Every second I am 'exercising' is a second that I resent doing more interesting and stimulating stuff. :hilarious: and as for getting off my backside of an evening to go to the gym... well the only way that is happening is if my home shower is out of action. :D

On the other hand... I love walking the dogs. In almost any weather. In fact they are more fair-weather walkers than I am! They have been known to refuse to leave the house on days I will happily go out. But then I suppose I have a raincoat. Anyway, even dog walking would pall if I didn't take the camera with me. Plus, it helps that they need the walk even more than I do. Dogs should be walked every day. For their health and sanity, so I exercise myself for them. Strong motivation.

Just think of a type of exercise you WANT to do, rather than something you know you SHOULD be doing.
Then do it.
:)

You might want to throw a bit of intermittent fasting into the mix too.. maybe skip breakfast? I usually just have tea or coffee and don't eat until lunchtime at the earliest. Extending the overnight fast allows your body more time to burn stored energy rather than the energy you have just ingested.

That's a good idea. I normally have bf at 7:30 then lunch about 2pm after gym. I would have to have a snack mid morning otherwise that's too long? Key seems to be when I am at home. Smaller dinners and no carbs snacks (bye bye crisps)

Thanks. I go to gym 5 times a week most weeks and have 2 puppies so will be dog walking again very soon. I think it's all down to diet. Again.
