Hello I am 38 was gdiganosed this year by T2 when I was diagnosed my sugar was around 300 my docotor immediately put me on metformin 1700mg I had good control like 130 constant for 6 months and my last h1ac was 6.2 then he put me on on extend release oh 1500 mg and by sugar is getting to 200 now what's going on what did I do wrong I was son holidays in Italy I started smoking again but quite after 2 weeks now vaping can anyone guide me? Best regrads

My understanding (as a T1) is that if you control T2 via medication rather than diet then it's generally a (hopefully slowly) progressive disease. Your body can't process carbs correctly, so if you take too many of them things will gradually go downhill. So are you on a low carb diet? If not, then there's probably some dramatic improvements that you can make by reducing the carbs.

If you are then you may just be unlucky or you may even be misdiagnosed (ie you're LADA and not T2, which is not the end of the world).

Or...

Look, I'm sure you're sick of medical professionals who tell you not to smoke but .... smoking/nicotine raises blood sugars and nicotine is just much much much worse for diabetics than it is for non diabetics.

If you don't want to take meds and are definitely Type 2 then you need to change what you eat and going low carb is far and away the easiest way to do that. Maybe take a look at www.dietdoctor.com for some tasty low carb meal ideas and take it from there.

Very kind can you explain metformin effects on Brian?

Brain sorry for the typing error
Oh I see ...sorry I have no idea I don't take any medication so have never investigated what metformin may or may not do to the brain (although it didn't agree with me at all) although I have read it may have an impact on some vitamin levels.
I control my blood sugars by an ultra low carb (almost completely carnivore these days) way of eating combined with intermittent fasting daily.

Great website for low carb recipes is www.dietdoctor.com if you go to subway have the salad bowl rather than the bread.

I'm afraid that if you are diabetic then carbs are always going to be a problem.
In my case I have been eating low carb for almost two years now and seem to have got rid of the diabetes, but my weight is still too high and I am now actually cutting down on carbs more than required to get my BG down to normal, to try to lose more weight. If I were to eat 'normal' amounts of carbs I would put on so much weight so fast, I have been told to eat carbs in the past and regained the weight lost over two years in three or four months. At least when I am eating low carb foods I do not need any medication for diabetes.
