Type 1'stars R Us

Thanks @Knikki, The hardest part is to stop doing the same unhelpful things over and over.
As you would know, there were very few instruments to use on the diabetes flying panel 20 + years ago, much of it was like I would imagine night flying in an aeroplane with a dodgy altometer (read urine testing meter).
How the instrument panel has changed.!!
Cannot go back and change the past, so up and onward. After a few crashes one realises that prevention is better than repair !!

Totally agree.

Well done to a 4.4...alarmed at 4.30 to a 3.4 grrr.

Today's the day I find out of the pump Dr if I am going on a pump. Appointment at 10am. Nervous to say the least
Ooh, will be thinking of you and keeping everything crossed ❤️

Morning all. Lovely day at the seaside and in Cowbridge yesterday with my friend. Here’s a selfie ;)

Had a nice 24 hour unicorn, waiting for it to all go horribly wrong in that wonderful way only T1 has...

Good morning, my kettle just died, and tripped the rcd thingy in the process. I need coffee.

Anyway, that is a more than survivable event.

Since I reduced the amount of insulin I was having with my evening meal, to a tiny amount, my night time blood sugars have been much nicer.

I think freestyle libre has made a massive difference to managing blood sugars, so reading the @Tony337 and @kitedoc debate, I'm inclined to take a seat perfectly balanced on the fence. I'm sure it probably gets a bit harder to manage blood sugars as we get older, but nothing like as hard as it would have been before.

PWD often become frail as they get older, more so than people without, but I think libre is likely to be a game changer on that, not for everyone, obviously, but for those who can, and are willing, to do what is needed.

The antioxidants in my body had a nice night of routine maintenance rather than crisis management, the more that happens the happier I am.
Thank you @Alison54321, Do you need a comfy pillow to sit there on the fence ? Rather than a fence what say it is like a river with many interconnecting channels. Or sewing along a particular path. You find the channel/sewing line that works best for you at the time, remembering that sometimes the channel/ needs to be changes a bit as circumstances may dictate. You can even colour the water/thread in your particular channel/sewing, give it sound, taste and smell.
After all when we all discuss something we put in your 10 p (plus VAT) worth each of us has a particular character to your experience and what we contribute.
Most usually differing experiences, views etc cause us to reflect on our own experience and see how it measures up, not competitively (except in a joking sense as the real competition is with oneself) but it all helps us to look at improvement or problem solving or think about things in a different way.

Hi @Mel dCP, You could cheat and glue the rock pile together. Just cannot do the same with T1 !!

I've had the libre for six months now, and I am finally beginning to feel as if I really know what works for me, in terms of managing my diabetes, in a way that allows me to live, and eat, the way I want to, and keep my blood sugar in range.

It's a very strange feeling, as it's 42 years now since I was diagnosed with diabetes, and even a year ago I wasn't expecting to enter my 42nd year with diabetes, feeling more optimistic about it than ever before. It has created a very strange feeling, turned my expectations upside down.

That freestyle libre prescription from Edinburgh ECED was a very nice present.

Sleepy. Zzzzzzzzzzzzz
Wake me up when .... oh, I guess I should be awake.

This often happens after climbing and last night I added a post-climbing trip to Asda to the mix so didn't get home until 11pm.
At least I have a stash of Libre in the drawer. I am still going for occasional use of about one every 6 weeks (2 weeks on 4 weeks off) and hoping the Glimp accuracy I experienced last time was not a one off.
Shame there is no Asda is town and I have to make a post-climbing detour. And shame the pharmacist's assistant was as useful as a chocolate teapot whilst the pharmacist was in the consulting room so I had to wait for him. Also shame I didn't turn to my right when I walked into Asda for the first time. I wandered behind all the tills, along the far wall, along the back of the shop past the bakery, fishmongers, etc and then realised the pharmacist was just in side the door. Oh well, I'm sue the extra steps were good for me.

Woke a little low, today. Well, I say "woke" but I am not sure I am really awake yet so let's go for "got out of bed a little low, today,
Love the term " as useful as a chocolate teapot", Nothing like humour to reset the mood. Some others " as helpful as a newspaper written with invisible ink"; as useful as noodles for a nose ring; as helpful as feathers on a donkey; as useful as wings on an elephant; as useful as wings on a wombat; as useful as rolling pins made of china; as useful as a rooster in a pig pen; as helpful as phone after a dunking; as useful as a canoe in the desert: as useful as a cardboard kettle; as useful as a camera in a dust storm: as helpful as a kite in a vacuum: as useful as a car with one wheel. Any others ??

Sometimes the right technology used in the right way at the right time makes the world of difference. That is marvellous to see. Mind you I could do without some of the newer music, the selfie phenomenon etc etc !! Libre all the way!!!

As useful as a waterproof teabag.
As useful as a handbrake in a canoe.
As useful as an ashtray on a motorbike.
As useful as an inflatable dartboard.
As useful as a condom machine in the Vatican. (Smeg)

Morning! Reasonable overnight, 6.6 -> 7.5 waking. No breakfast today so tried to combat DP with 0.5u, not enough as rose to 9.7 a bit later. No Libre for now, rationing my remaining consumables. Was fun whilst it lasted.

Hope your appointment goes well @porl69!

@kitedoc seems you have had a bit of rough ride in the past, then again I think most of us long termers have at some point have hit a brick wall but through luck and bloody mindedness (made up word) have pulled our selves through to live and tell a tale or too to younger ones who complain about modern day needles

@Tony337 Indeed how did we ever survive the 70's-80's & 90's with out the aid of modern meters and Etch A Sketch but as you say the technology improves and helps us no end but I also am beginning to feel a bit....well...not sure about it, you seem to find yourself becoming a slave to the numbers when in the "good old days" (sarcasm) you just knuckled down and got on with it :hilarious:

On a side note, after yesterdays "battle of the high numbers" I'm back my usual low, which in my world is good and I'm sat here with a coffee and a flake :joyful: and running at a 4.8

Happy days

In days of old when knights were bold and toilets weren't invented
They did their load in the middle of the road and walked away contented..........

I like the "short of a..." sayings.
One brick short of a load
A sandwich short of the filling
A toolbox short of a spanner
A few cards short of a deck
A few fries short of a Happy Meal
...
For a moment I thought I was reading my obituary there :p

As I'm on foot today at work and have just walked by the end of my cul-de-sac the coffee pot drew me home for a break, levelled off at 6.2 so changing night to day basal doubles my breakfast insulin needs, not a bother but I'm surprised :)

Good morning one and all - I’ve spent it sorting, or trying to sort, some troubles at t’ (not T1) mill. Expecting a few highs now.
As useful as adrenaline to high bs
I’ve been reading up on posts and would love to go back to those carefree days of youth knowing I survived them @kitedoc.
Hope you’ve got good news @porl
Love the stone stack @Mel dCP, I’ve had some good days building those too with waves breaking an all that.
Not surprised you’re grumpy today @kev-w!
As for the condom machine in the vatican, well, what can I say that’s not going to cause offence?

Well that was a very strange appointment to say the least!
I have been officially approved for a pump WOOHOO :) very happy.
Now got to await an appointment with the pump team (I thought Dr Oboubie was the pump Dr!?) and for an appointment with the DSN (who is the leader of the pump team!) and an appointment with the dietitian....so the start of another journey into type 1 is beginning :)
