Morning all,

Very impressive Remembrance Sunday parade there, @Cumberland is that Carlisle? They put on a very good show.

I messed up last night. I woke about midnight with a libre of reading of 3.5 and falling, and ate a couple of sweets, and then did a finger prick test, and of course it was in the 6s, so I had to get the spike back down. Seriously interfered with my sleep. This sensor seems to be showing quite a few wrong low readings at night, so I have going to have to re-programme my brain, to remember that, when I wake at night.

All under control now, but I have some very fine zigzags on my daily graph reader, they almost look like saw tooth soundwaves, wonder what noise they'd make?

Happy Monday (is that what they call an oxymoron?). Interesting weekend, we had the father-in-law staying with us who's T2 and well, he's old and blindly follows what the Docs tell him, takes a tonne of pills for this that and the other. At least his HCPs do prescribe him testing strips of a fashion.

My BG over the weekend went along the lines of sort of OKish, good, bad and this morning good. The bad was Sunday dinner, and it took a lot on insulin to tame it back down again, perhaps the sister-in-laws pudding had a lot more sugar in it then I thought! The FIL just breezed it though oddly.

Morning

All this food talk is making me hungry again and after I deliberately did not go into Kev's T1Food thread.:joyful:

BS over the weekend not bad couple of small spikes here and there but I know roughly when they are going to hit so can catch them.

Still not convinced about quiche, to many flash backs ;) :hilarious:

All fine over here, just Monday and well,,,,,,,,,I don't know might just step away from a little bit spend time slaughtering foes in the universe, reading some photography and go back to making kits :pompous::cyclops:

OK my fellow colanders what do we think. Finally managed to get a flatish line with BG, hovering between 5 and 7 since about 2pm. just about to have dinner , 2 pork chops and a fairly standard portion of cooked cauliflower, maybe 10 g of carbs. Thats all.

So if my background Levemir is correct, on a ration of 1:5 for my Novoslow, I should only need 2 maybe 3 units of this. Come 10pm I should be sitting around 6 or 7?

Are things getting back to normal? Just checked and I am at 5.9 so happy with that. This is at 10pm Lets see how it goes overnight

Went to bed at 10.45 by which time my BG had dropped to 4.8 on finger test. Better take something, so had a small chocolate digestive, 9 g of carbs. What harm can that do

Quite a lots as it happens. Woke at 1 am Libre says I was now 9.6:arghh::arghh::arghh:. On less than 10 g of carbs my BG has gone up by 5 oh come on

Woke again around 4 am Libre now at 8.1 and finally got up at 8 am with a 7.8. Not the best but compared to last last week a huge improvement

Anyone car to offer any advice. Going to bed on a 4.8, for me that is pretty low and I took something to avoid going low overnight. Could I just have left it and taken less basal?. Cos by taking that 10g of carbs I got a pretty steep spike

@smc4761 how about the fat and the protein in your dinner slowly rising your BG after your novorapid has done it's thing and the 9gs biscuit just adding to this and taking you higher than expected. Not having the biscuit would probably have seen some goood numbers but then again this is T1 so who knows and we'll never be able to find out even if you replicate it all again!

Thanks @slip, what I have found if go to bed on anything less than a 5 normally I will go low overnight, I overcompensate and wake up with double figures in the morning. Its such a pain

It is! None of my HCPs have ever said it is easy...............and that is so true, but just one break would be nice wouldn't it?!?

Morning all - if it's not too late to say it still..

Had the school reunion on Saturday which was hilarious, based on a number of reasons such as being sober and watching old school pals getting drunk, revisiting old classrooms and not recognising some people I went to school with who were sat on the same table as me, didn't get home till 2am and then had a hypo followed by another at 4am, sleep deprivation obviously affected my hypo reasoning skills, then followed by another 2 later in the day, so Sunday was tiring. What was good was that I didn't talk about my t1 at all during the night and my levels stayed around 10 most of the night, just a shame when tiredness struck that my levels decided to drop.

Would recommend school reunions though, as I was a little unsure of going but seeing some old faces and re-kindling friendships made it totally worthwhile :)

I'm having a one of many duh-oh moments, bloods are steady at 7.9 so no lunch other than a stove top coffee, but something's been nagging away in my mind to do with my diabetes, and then the penny dropped I needed a lunchtime basal injection, as I say, duh-oh :p

Afternoon all, bit high through the night, had a bit too much wine, and didn’t want to have a hypo on top, so didn’t correct at bedtime and just turned my high alarms off - but unfortunately the usual BG lowering effects didn’t kick in, grrr. Got to love the unpredictability of this stupid disease, eh? Down into the purple now, but could have done without it, tbh.

Not long got back from the dentist, just a checkup today. Apparently my quite receded gums are looking much healthier and have come back a little this year - basically since I got to normal-ish BG levels. Were any of you ever told about the effect of diabetes on your teeth and gums at any point? Because I certainly wasn’t. Had the fear of god put into me about eyes, feet, heart and kidneys, but not any of the other stuff. It wasn’t until I started with this dentist about four years ago that the subject even came up. He was super impressed by my cyborg accessories, though :borg: A quick scrape of a spot of plaque, and I’m good to go for another six months.

Quiet afternoon reading my first responder manual and waiting for a delivery, we’re doing catastrophic haemorrhaging and airways this week, so some good juicy (quite literally) stuff. Of course, when I see blood, I always have a deep seated urge to dip a test strip in it...

That sounds like good news. Because hypers, as opposed to hypos, requires a lot of extra antioxidant activity, people with diabetes can have a bit of a deficiency in vitamin c, a well known antioxidant, which could affect the gums, maybe?

But no I was never told either. Just googling, and googling, and googling revealed these things.

Anyway, good news it's improving.

Hi @Mel dCP like you was never told about any potential issues with teeth or gums. My mouth is hypersensitive as well, anything hot or cold especially the back teeth and I hit the roof. Was at dentist last week for my 6 monthly (ooooops 1st in 3 years) check up. All i had was scale and polish which looked like a bloodbath after she finished.

Getting my moneys worth from NHS as had my annual eye check yesterday. No change, I still need glasses for close reading but all good. Even the camera shot revealed no damage except for some very mild haemorrhaging which has been there for 20+ years. She did say though the camera revealed less damage from previous years. Think this is mainly because of my better control past 6 months or

Glad to see the first responder training is going well

At Juicyj not had a reunion as such, but about 5 years ago, the school was all knocked down and rebuilt. Prior to demolition they had a huge open weekend which was amazing. Such a trip down memory lane, 37 years on. Loads of photos, teachers and pupils.

Nope me neither Mel, I am with a great dentist now who is pretty sharp on these things so have 2 hygienist appointments a year which keeps an eye on any signs of periodontitis which is what we have to be ultra careful with , but it was never mentioned at diagnosis or with my DSN/consultant appointments.

I should of added it's a direct result of high blood glucose levels hence why diabetics are more at risk, periodonitis puts us at greater risk of losing teeth and can have a direct impact on BG control too, and it's pretty tricky to get rid of once you have it, hence good cleaning and regular hygienist appointments are so important, as is keeping your bg levels under control.

Arrgghh. My DSN really frustrates me sometimes. Everything is so black and white and simple.

Just had a phone conversation with her as I have asked for my next appointment to to moved closer as I have made major changes and am having issues with hypos. Straight away she said if your having hypos you should reduce your insulin. Reduce both basal and bolus by 20% without seeing any readings or any information other than me saying I am having problems with hypos and that I use a ratio of 8:1 (to which she said must be wrong because she tells people it should be 10:1).

I don't understand how someone can tell me to make such a change without any seeing any BG results.

I have arranged an appointment to show her my Libre readings, what carbs I eat and when and what dosages I am taking. Hopefully once she has this information I can trust her advice more
