Sorry, I do not know about that.
I bolus for carbs and correct knowing what insulin I have on board.
I don’t distinguish between any different types of BG highs. I treat them all the same.
This works for me.
But ... all together now ...
“We are all different” :):)
I agree, maybe she was just trying to convince me not to correct. I do tend to use a sledgehammer to crack a nut, and find it alot easier to bring my BG back up after a hypo than down from a hyper.

The example she gave was if had a low during the night and a liver dump and was at 16 at lunchtime (I don't eat breakfast) would I add additional bolus to to lunch bolus, I said yes, she said I shouldn't correct until dinnertime encase the liver takes back the glucose after I correct.

That's the first time I've ever heard of a liver taking glucose back! I had my DSN and her senior colleague in the room. They said this was covered in DAFNE which I'm waiting to do. Has anyone else been told that your liver can take Glucose back out from your BG?

I assume the liver creating glucose from protein due to low carbs works the same as a hypo liver dump?

Very interesting!

I assumed the liver worked on BG not insulin. I think it might have been you that first mentioned Gluconeogenesis to me a few month back.

So in the DSN example it's not the BG returning to a target level that would make the liver store the glucose, but it detecting increased insulin.
I'm guessing that's why I would tend to get a rebound in the night - as I would only have a trickle of basal, and a low during the day would be too much bolus so the liver doesn't release glucose

Sorry I love a bit of science.

Well known process - usually happens when you’ve just injected a correction thinking the grab back isn’t going to happen :D ( or when you forgot you had a hypo x hours ago)

It’s the reason some roller coaster up and down all day.

I have been T1D for 17 years and before joining this forum a couple of months ago I had no idea the liver had any role in T1D, I have now learnt it is one of the biggest factors.

Yes, I have been on a rollercoaster for a while now with daily hypos and a few hypers.

Thank you all for your help.

It’s amazing what can be learnt from the real T1 experts. I guarantee that you know something that someone else with similar experience doesn’t. That’s the beauty of all us lot being part of the forum.

Isn’t that a punch in the gob? ;)
Nah, dunno what the Aussie term for that is, apart from that phrase. The shrug is probably more as part of answering a question with "Maybe'. Example: 'Can I borrow ya umbrella'? "Yeah, maybe (shrug). I'll have ta ask the missus. She baggeds it first". (she took possession of it first).
