What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Sorry to make 2 of you share a post but we are among friends.
Oh, they are right up there so, yes, consider yourself at the top table. @OrsonKartt skinny isn't where I think we need to be with this condition. First things I read on DX struck a chord - you need muscle to fight this condition. I am happy to be this size/weight provided there is muscle a plenty. Calves are now a no go area allegedly so can't run which is a shame as my current body composition/size is set up for that rather than anything else. I feel a keen sense that I urgently need more muscle. First time I had a flu jab after DX the diabetic nurse said, "oo, we've got muscle" what a mad witch. That seems the minimal requirement for dealing with this.
I have to agree when I lost so much weight a lot of it was muscle and I am having great difficulty in getting it back my advise for anyone trying to drastically reduce weight is try and avoid muscle loss you need it.

BCAA can help with this wish I'd known that
Branch chain amino acids or BCAAs prevent muscle loss by providing an energy source, which prevents the body from using its own muscle for fuel. BCAAs achieve this feat because they are metabolized directly in muscles, rather than in the liver like most other amino acids. The three BCAAs are L-leucine, L-isoleucine and L-valine. Usually taken in a 2 to 1 to 1 ratio, respectively, they immediately inhibit muscle breakdown.

And of course adequate intake of protein also important.

Is this the type of product you are referring to John? Also, the nutritionals don't have carbs - any details?

Hi all. Check out bbc radio 4. 3.30pm. On now. All about carbs.
Thanks for the heads up about this from yesterday. Listened to it and was hugely disappointed in that the message seemed to be you are all on your own. Best we can say is eat real food cooked from scratch. Bearing in mind we have been giving you a bum steer for about 50 years we may not be the best folk to listen to.:banghead:

I sympathise but I am a bit more portly so I can't use that excuse. I do wonder if we all have a natural or ideal body weight for all the dory's to be hunky. I am fairly sure mine is nearer the 12.5 stone marker than the 11.5 ish (74 kgs today; height 184 cms) I have bludgeoned it into trying to control bg. Body may well be trying to take back control.

I get the feeling my body is trying to reset itself at a higher weight too, one it’s got used to over the years. Whatever I do will work ok for a week or 2 then bgs just start rising again. As my mum used to say ‘it’s a blinking swizz’

I'm not that bothered being skinny , it doesn't feel unhealthy . The higher glucose levels are somewhat concerning though. I'm wondering if they are being driven by an excess of caffein. I tend to drink lots , strong and fresh. I'll try to cut down over the next week or so and see what happens.

I’ll watch your caffeine reduction with interest - I too drink a lot of fresh coffee, I’m loathe to stop but I guess I will if I have to.
I agree that being thinner isn’t an issue, the bgs are though.

The BCAAs are the only amino acids not degraded in the liver. All other amino acids are regulated by the gut and the liver before being circulated elsewhere in the body. However, BCAAs head directly into the bloodstream. This means that dietary intake of BCAAs directly influences plasma levels and concentrations in muscle tissue (Layman DK 2003). Interestingly, BCAAs are burned for energy (oxidized) during exercise, so they’re also an important exercise fuel.

BCAAs play an important role in:

Synthesis of proteins in general
Glucose homeostasis (i.e. keeping blood sugar levels constant)
Direct regulation of muscle protein synthesis (via insulin signaling cascade)
BCAAs’ potential impact on the aforementioned processes depends upon availability and dietary intake.

Adequate consumption of BCAAs may help manage body fat, spare muscle mass, and regulate glucose/insulin balance.

Though it is thought that taking BCAA supplements along with a high fat diet can adversely affect insulin resistance to a degree those that I tried did not have high carb content sorry can't give you an exact figure as I no longer have any to check having exhausted my supply, if any and when I did take them it was a bit like closing the stable door after the horse had bolted but they did not seem to increase IR for me nor did they seem to cause any increase in blood sugar levels .

Thanks John. Lots of information to mull over there.

That’s very frustrating. I think it was @rhubarb73 who said it seems to be a law of diminishing returns and I have to agree. I’m having the same issues and it seems I can either go for good bgs or weight loss but not both and as I don’t want to lose any more weight I’m stumped.
I think I joined in that discussion but not sure if I started it. I guess the point was that in the early days motivational milestones come thick and fast - then you get to a good place but still have the rest of your life to live. It’s a wall to get through.
As Billy Joel said “I believe I’ve passed the age of consciousness and righteous rage, I’ve found that just surviving is a noble fight.”

I weight lift for this reason. I have actually put on more muscle since I started eating low carb at the end of June (started weight lifting at the same time) despite my weight loss.

That Billy Joel quote is perfect for us. Ought to be our anthem.

Don't be offended when I say this but, although the names rang big bells I had to Google. I'm in fabulous company. You have bestowed a great honour upon me. Thank you kind sir :).

As a Lancashire lass you should be much more flattered by the link with Clive Lloyd. As for the other one, I’m saying nothing.

Happy Birthday to your OH!

Thanks for sharing, I need this information,
I´ll have a try; you convinced me there is some logic in what they sell at my gym, usually, I just presume it is a humbug
initially I gained 4 kg of muscle , but only 1 kg the last year... but my strength has increased.. when I started I could only move 40 kg with my legs now it is 80 kg..., but since I have to lose a lot once more I need to do something to not lose muscle.

4.6 this morning. (Very happy with this, I'm a diet only Type 2 who's never had a hypo).

I moved my weigh in date to Monday (will eventually move to it Sunday).
Today was a loss of 2.6 lbs (1.18 kg)
total weight loss: 61.19 lbs (27.76kg - 4 stone 5.19)

from 273.59 lb (124.09 kg) July 5 to
212.4 lb (96.34 kg) today.

BMI: was 48.0, now 36.5, lost over 22% of starting weight

My next small goals is to weigh less than my husband (206 lbs), get into BMI Obesity Class 1 (under 35 BMI - 203 lbs or less), lose 25% of original weight (under 205.2) and get below 200 lbs.

Great going with the weight loss. And brilliant fbgs!

Perfect week for that job @PenguinMum emails from all and sundry re Black Friday. Just waiting for the annual Chanel price drop fest then I can do my single Christmas shop - oh buy a bag and stuff, apparently the British public now expect that nonsense.:angelic: Strangely, I quite like the shops at Christmas just steer clear of the buying part. That is best done in a slow, considered way from home.
Edited to make it clear I was referring to smelly stuff not TV

Thank you for posting that. That is how I do most of my Christmas shopping. I would much rather get out and go to real stores and malls but having things shipped is cheaper than paying Uber or a cab to take me shopping. And this time of year several places have free shipping, including Amazon and Target. And I do enjoy doing it in a slow and considered way, with my feet up, and cat in lap, and not having to listen to Christmas carols in November. I love them, but in December.
