Hi
Just wondered if any of u would know why my bgs would rise after eating tomatoes and chicken?
Also had a cuppa tea no sugar

Usally my bgs drops

If it's a one off I wouldn't worry. High bg can be caused by stress, or incubating an illness, or just because you got out of bed the wrong side that morning (OK, maybe not the latter but as an insulin dependant T1 it sure feels like it sometimes :)).

There's about 3 grams of carbs per 100 grams of tomato...? Maybe the protein in the chicken? It shouldn't make you spike, but it could raise levels a little bit, which is fine. What are you calling a rise?

My bgs have been high, usally 8 to 10 first thing in morn.
But usally it drops to 6 to 7 2 hours later.
So imagine my surprise to find today my bgs go up from 9 to 11.1mmol.

I have herd your bgs may increase whilst fasting, stress or even if you may have had a virus or other meditation.

I think it maybe because of hardly eating anything and hardly any carbs.

Breakfast:-chicken leg and tomatoes and cuppa tea (no sugar)

Protein shake (after gym)

Afternoon:-veg and chicken

Cuppa tea

And my bgs are down to around 8.5mmol

I will have my protein porridge before work to see what happens as my bgs usally drop to 5 or 6mmol.

Perhaps im not eating enough fat, i dont know.

Just doing some home work on this

What sort of tomatoes were they? Fresh, or cherry, or tinned?
Protein porridge? Porridge is something most T2s need to avoid.
What diabetes meds are you taking, if any?

Did you do a re-tests. Either your before eating or your 2 hour test could have been false. If you get an unexpected result it is wise to check it again and also a third time if they are wildly different.

Yeah been testing all day
And now its Tuesday and once again i got a spike....
Could i have had a cold and not know, i did have a course chest last week but its only been yesterday and today my bloods have an extra 2 or 3mmols.
Its just slightly annoying not knowing the problem espiecally when my bgs drop when i stay away from starch and oats.

The protein porridge works for me as i would have that before work in evenings and by the time ive come back my bgs have dropped even more.

I shall be monitering everything over this week.
