What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Absolutely gutted, meter reading this morning 18.1. No added sugar and only 120g of carbs yesterday which is half what I used to eat. I know some on here suggest only 20g of carbs but I have been advised not to drastically change diet before knowing whether T1 or T2.

Small steps kiddo. Are you able to distract the chimp inside your head when it screams “binge”?
When My chimp sees something stuffed with carbs and starts crying for it like a naughty child, I take a drink of water, make some tea, go for a walk, wander round the garden - that sort of stuff.
Stay well.
My usual strategy to avoid a binge is either walking the dog around a flooded gravel bit near where i live, or firing up the PS4 and playing a racing game.

They work most of the time, but last evening the craving was so great I was unable to resist the urge.

Hello, I’ve been (sort-of) sulking for the last few days after a 6.7 and a 7.1.

I say sort-of because I’ve decided that when I get a bad score I will use it as a prompt to visit the newly diagnosed section of the forum and try and find something helpful to say to a newbie, to guide them in the right direction and give them a bit of inspiration. I find it hard to find the time to do as much of that as I would like.

Anyway the good deed has been rewarded with a 5.7 today.

I think I’m going to visit my GP soon to talk about my blood pressure. I’ve been on Ramipril but stopped recently to see what happens. My systolic remains up at borderline high levels in the high 130’s. But my diastolic is borderline low in the mid 60’s. I’m confused and not sure how to set a dose (if at all) for that. Maybe I’ll use the opportunity to request an HBa1C blood test as it’s more than 6 months since the previous one.

Please do talk with your doc before you stop a BP med. That can be really dangerous.

I agree you need a diagnosis before deciding on a course of action (in conjunction with HCPs).
However, if you get a test result that seems really odd then worth doing another test on the other hand straight away (having washed hands thoroughly) - sometimes you can get a dodgy strip.

I was 18.3 last night before tea too so don't think it's the strips :(

thanks - it's not really that dangerous given my levels. I'm testing several times a day whilst I'm off. So if the BP started to rocket up, I would just take the pills again. BP in the 130s-140's won't cause any sudden damage.
The only way to assess whether my BP is more naturally under control following the weight loss is to see what happens after a few days on the meds. I've done this before.
I'm sharing this for info/chat, rather than for input or output advice, but appreciate your thoughts.

Prince Phillip lives in his ivory tower John...overprivileged...doesn't live in the real world...I choose to liken our practice them the to Trump Administration...lets build a wall around the surgery and keep those pesky patients out...lets 'trumple' them into submission..

Actually Trump did away with Obama's health "care" policy, which forced people to pay for health coverage even if they didn't make enough money at their jobs to cover the cost of it; if they refused to pay, they were forced to pay a huge fine. Under Trump, Americans were no longer forced to buy high-priced health coverage or pay a fine for not doing so.

People in other countries are appalled when they hear that some Americans can lose their homes from having to pay for major medical care; with Obamacare the same thing could happen. Do you pay for health coverage you might not need? Or do you pay for prescription meds? Or do you eat?

Morning All. 6.6 at 0800 according to Codefree. Yesterday I went to an independent optician after struggling for the past 6 weeks with my new glasses from a high street chain who werent interested in my problems. Anyway turns out I have a significant bleed behind right eye and have an urgent referral to hospital. I am so disappointed after more than a year of good control and it is the second bleed same eye in just over a year.
Anyway hope you are all ok. Have a good Thursday almost the weekend.
Stay well, safe and warm.
hope it gets sorted soon penguinmum sending big hugs xx

Not money per se, but certainly the worship of it;

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs” (1 Timothy 6:10).

You beat me to it! Thanks for posting the accurate quote. :)

According to some, passenger jets will soon be manned by only one pilot and a dog. The pilot is there to feed the dog. The dog is there to bite the pilot if the pilot touches anything.
Train the dog?

I came off BP meds about two years ago...like you it was the only way for me to see if it had reduced...although I did advise my GP...he left the medication on my repeat in case it went up again...good luck.

Saskia my Trump comments were tongue-in-cheek...however there seems to be some myth that we get our health care here for free...we do not...we pay for all that we have...whether we are working...incapacitated...unwaged...out of work...we pay tax on everything which all goes into the public coffers...duty on fuel...value added tax on almost everything...duty on alcohol...the list is endless...so we pay every time we buy anything that is non essential.
